Look, I know all the reasons we got here, but we really need to start seriously thinking about what we do in a world where The Markets punish whole countries for voting for decency, compassion, and fairness. We must stop pretending the capitalist machine is an objective, value neutral force.
50501 strongly condemns the transphobic policy positions espoused in Josh Turek’s campaign ad. We’re calling on @joshturek4iowa.bsky.social to stand with the trans community & attack the real threat to the safety of women & girls: the Trump administration’s cover-up of the Epstein trafficking ring.
its insane how not many people are talking about how republicans with the help of several moderate democrats are building out the largest abusive medical conversion therapy operation in modern american history
To @tressiemcphd.bsky.social 's great point about far right leaders networking, they are always counting on them to bail each other out. But not a guarantee
BREAKING WaPo:
Brazil's right-wing Flávio Bolsonaro just effectively conceded defeat to the incumbent left-wing president — minutes after Trump indicated he would not intervene on his behalf.
pelosi's a nonsigner which tbh makes sense because in true italian fashion, she absolutely privileges her anger at ilhan's independence/unwillingness to tow the party line over the obvious threat of any member of congress being persecuted in this way. racist ass
Thread 🧵
Over 170 House Dems sent a letter to AG Blanche condemning Trump's raid on @ilhanmn.bsky.social's home.
Letter available here & in tweets below, you will find who *didn't* sign including Pelosi, Hoyer, Stevens, Scholten, Golden, Moskowitz & dozens more:

I know everyone dismisses Kansas as a backwards red state but I just want to emphasize that this is actually a step backward as far as how Dems in Kansas talking about trans issues goes
no like I can't get over how the NYT so obviously picked their prepared anecdotes in expectation of a celebratory "here's how Bolsonaro won" article and had to awkwardly pivot them into sulking about Lula winning
the only thing the liberal new york times loves more than transphobia is right-wing electoral victories in the united states and the only thing the liberal new york times loves more than right-wing electoral victories in the united states is right-wing electoral victories in latin america
it is very funny that "queer leftists" get this reputation of being above voting or whatever because my wife and I fill our ballots out with enough reverence it feels like it is a religious ceremony
You all have seen Erin and I fiercely clash over tactics over the years, but this piece makes a wholly reasonable ask that I also endorse.
The four in the header image especially suck shit.
The elections are on next Tuesday, and so much is at stake, including the soul of the Democratic Party when it comes to transgender people.
I am asking you to leave a very small number of races blank in which a Democrat has embraced extreme anti-trans hate.
I make my case here.
Instead we should focus on which messages, ideas, and visions beyond "we need to beat the far right" have mobilized large parts of society. We should understand the organizational structures behind these victories and acknowledge that they are about more than defending the status quo.
We need to stop always making the far right the subject of political agency and the object of voter decisions in our analyses of contemporary politics. The success of the far right is not inevitable. But single elections do not signal the end of the far-right threat to our democracies.
Many comments on the great election victories in Brazil and Serbia state that the authorian right is in decline or that voters have rejected far-right authoritarianism. That is a wrong interpretation of what happened. Progressive movements mobilized and beat the authoritarian right. That's different
We won not only against Bolsonaro, but against the full force of the USian's Big Techs, Meta, CIA, Trump, the Brazilian right-wing elites, the billionaires' press and more.
PSA for cis folks: if a democrat goes on camera and answers a question about trans rights without making an explicit statement supporting trans rights, they're anti-trans
I'm sorry, Democrats. I don't mean people, I mean I expect Democrats specifically to generally agree with me that I didn't have too many rights in 2020, and want to see them restored to at least that level.
Yes, my enormous entitlement of thinking I had the correct amount of rights in 2020 and expecting people to generally agree that I didn't have too many back then.
This is just embarrassing given how many of these rights were recognized not by legislators from either party but by the nominally nonpartisan supreme court. And even if you say "democratic nominees" you miss Earl Warren (Brown v Board), Anthony Kennedy (Lawrence, Obergefell) and Gorsuch (Bostock)
Hi. I, a trans woman, am the Executive Producer of this show. I wrote the question. He called trans girls men. He has now said it in three different places in the past week.
I invite all cis people to attempt to imagine how it feels to see your rights taken away for 2 years, and not a peep from any institutions who were supposed to be the guarantors of your freedoms.
In fact, many adopt stigmatizing language and pile on the fire that is your right to happiness . . .
So, I'm being dragged for saying the incremental change idea involves fighting Democrats who want to drag their feet on giving trans people back the rights we've lost over the past 6 years...
...by Democrats who favor an incremental change approach to restoring trans people's rights.
It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.
unfortunately we have the ‘biological males’ framing here in the rest of the clip so I am going to have to rescind my ‘see how easy it is, red state dems’
this sucks! do better!
He decided he didn't want my support and instead wanted the support of violent transphobes when he proposed cutting hundreds of thousands of trans people's lifesaving healthcare.
