I asked you your favourite biscuit and you said 'oh a hob nob' or 'digestive' or 'bourbon' and you thought it would make me think you authentic and real but you should have said 'the poshest ones I can find for the posh ones are the best' as that is the truth you hide and now I know you are a coward

We've all got that friend we'd be entirely unsurprised to get a call for help from because they'd found themselves naked with their knee stuck in a tree 🙄 👍🏛️🍑 #MuseumBums "The Milon of Crotone", c1840, possibly Stephani Vignes, in Château de Loubens-Lauragais, France

Xavier Becerra put the Steve Hilton contradiction right on the debate stage: enforce Trump’s federal immigration laws, but ignore California’s own protections? Then he dropped the hammer: “You seem to welcome immigrants who look like you, but deport immigrants who look like me.”

I'm delighted to learn this, not least because the next item on my task list, which is to take my pet geese to see a well-known play by Samuel Beckett, is also a palindrome: "TO DO: Geese see Godot".

I believe that the traditional phrasing is "no fats, no femmes."

A #BlueskyLullaby for tonight: Since yesterday would have been the 90th birthday of the late Jim Henson, and since today marks one month since Dolly Parton died, here they are singing a duet (with Henson voicing Kermit the Frog) on Dolly's variety show in 1987. See you around.

🇷🇺 While ordinary Russians keep dying for their piece of shit president, Russia could be on track to set a record for Lamborghini purchases. In the first 8 months of the year, 141 new Lamborghinis were registered in Russia. That’s 48% more than during the same period in 2025 (95 cars).

Hi everyone, In this house we support workers and unions. As such, there's no LGBTQIA+ tour of V&A today. We hope to be back soon.

I am made FURIOUS by the needless pain they’re made to suffer. Queer kids exist, I was one. I knew from very young. Trans kids exist, listen to them. The relentless cruelty of JK Rowling and her ilk are torturing these kids. So no, I will not shut up.

I spoke about being queer in a religious upbringing to 200 Scottish teens at book event this afternoon. Had seven (yes, seven) queer students and two trans students come out to me quietly in the signing queue afterwards, one of them in tears. I will never forgive those who make their lives so hard.

As promised, stealing this idea. Will the fact that the essay is about cyborgs make the whole thing more awkward? Less so? Idk.

Ted Underwood@tedunderwood.com

Yesterday I told someone “I’m going to steal that but credit you,” so this is me crediting: Tai-Won Kim at Sogang University has students write a short essay by hand on an in-class exam, but then also later expand it into a polished draft using both AI and human feedback. I like that combination. +

right, ok, enough self-pity, I need to turn my shit pub around. it's in Stratford, it's got a (small) stage, there has to be someone who has something cool they want a space for queer-run, extremely diverse venue (we even let mumbling old white geezers in) what I'd call 'mostly accessible'

The historic character of New York City neighbourhoods will be destroyed by "fewer cars, and more dumpsters". Fewer cars, how, er, tragic and anti-historic. 😂😂😂

We’ve got this all wrong. This is clearly an adaptation of the Shamen’s seminal house music ode to the drug ecstasy “Ebenezer Goode”. “E’s are good/E’s are good/whoa oh oh/He’s Ebenezer Goode!” It’s just 2 hours of Depo dancing like Bez. For which he will be paid 65 million dollars.

It’s also just a basic point about decency. Either calls for murdering minorities are a dealbreaker for you in using someone’s product or they aren’t. For Labour (and the Conservatives, and the Lib Dems, and Greens) they should be.

I've been reading Scientific American since I first got access to it at age 9 by sneaking into my school's senior school library (with the encouragement of the wonderful librarian Peter Heinecke). 😥

Steve Brusatte@stevebrusatte.bsky.social

Scientific American is 180 years old. The most eminent science magazine for the general public. And today, sold off as scrap to stop the staff from unionizing. Many top editors I've worked with for a decade on several articles have been fired. What a disgrace @sciam.bsky.social

Whenever I hear someone claiming that USAID was evil from a leftist perspective, I hear someone saying “yes, millions ARE dying because Musk and Trump killed USAID, but at least they’ll die free of American imperialism.” Notably it is never the people saying this who are dying.

Fortunately, this is extremely unlikely to pass, but the fact that it can even be discussed makes me feel ill as it further moves the Overton Window in a terrifying direction.
