The US Holocaust Memorial Museum condemned Tim Walz for comparing children hiding from ICE in Minneapolis to Anne Frank. Meanwhile, a council member at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum is out here saying Trump "prevented another Holocaust" by bombing Iran. Who gets to make Holocaust comparisons?

US bombers loading up on UK airstrips before raining down bombs on Iran. Parliament wasn't consulted - and polling shows huge numbers oppose it. When do MPs get a say over our involvement in this war? www.forbes.com/sites/peters...

Just fascinating to see Blair, a man whose reputation was ruined by the Iraq war, advocate joining a war that is exponentially stupider and more chaotic. How is it possible to learn nothing from the worst mistake of your life?

can you imagine our GG visiting the CIA, Mossad or MI6? Yeah nah. Let's put this in another context. Imagine the outrage if it was President Xi and not Herzog visiting ASIO there is something pretty fvcked with the relationship we have with the Z kvnts. www.sbs.com.au/news/article...

Even when they’re trying to be accurate, the New York Times can never quite pull it off. The Constitution doesn’t give Congress the power to “formally” declare war. There’s no alternative “casual” war power. It gives Congress the power “To declare War” period, no fucking formally about it.

Kieran Meadows@kieranbluesky.bsky.social

In the past, sometimes presidents have said it’s just a military operation or limited airstrikes to skirt Congress. Trump has unilaterally launched major combat operations, declaring war with the goal of regime change. A major violation of the U.S. Constitution, also illegal under international law

It should go without saying that the aim here is to collapse Iran - a country of ninety million people - into ungovernable chaos and Mad Max-style warlord catastrophe, much as they have every other country from Libya to Afghanistan that they could not buy off.

More than ever, we must realize that, somehow, there are people who are capable of the evil we thought we'd only see in movies and books

OpenAI is a menace. Two recent stories make that clearer than ever. One day you have Sam Altman denigrating humanity to defend AI. The next, WSJ reveals OpenAI could have alerted Canadian police of a potential mass shooter, but refused pressure from employees. That person went on to kill 8 people.

It rarely gets mentioned, but Sophie Scamps voted with The Greens on a motion to recognise Palestine in early 2024. Her office was vandalized and had to close for the best part of a week due to threats. She still spoke out on Herzog.

Sports commentary should always be like this

Nathan Kalman-Lamb@nkalamb.bsky.social

Incredible commentary from this Swiss announcer, who accurately characterizes the Israeli team as "Self-defined zionist to the core...who posted several messages in favour of the genocide in Gaza...calling it ‘the most morally just war in history.’” Solidarity to a real one.

They won't find ALL the hollows. They won't be able to extract ALL the hollows. Many hollows will break, while attempting to extract and relocate them. Gliders won't use many of the relocated hollows. Greater gliders WILL die. This is a disgrace!

Professor Euan Ritchie FAMS@euanritchie.bsky.social

The utter sham of offsets, yet again... “Destroying the equivalent of 40 MCGs worth of greater glider habitat and then attempting to relocate all hollows and claim this somehow offsets the harm to greater gliders is genuinely deluded, and contemptuous.” - me www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Almost every statement and action the current and previous governments have made and taken in relation to the destruction of the Gaza Strip has been done in the most bleak, cynical bad faith, so I see no reason at all to assume any part of this was done in good faith.

CONFIRMED in Estimates this morning that Defence's $3B land privatisation has ONE test which is who pays most. Public housing or veterans uses are not being considered. Century-old public land sold off without any public benefit assessment. Privatisation at it's grubby worst.

Senator David Shoebridge@davidshoebridge.bsky.social

I asked the AFP what they are doing to ensure the violent policing we saw in Sydney yesterday isn't repeated when President Herzog visits Canberra tomorrow.

the police presence at Town Hall is unfuckingbelievable. They are deep inside the station, stopping and searching people at the top of the stairs from the platform. Absolutely off the charts I have never seen anything like it and I have protested for over 40 years.
