Friends, it's hard to learn much from an Australian mainstream media that mostly repeats PR drops or horse-race style stories Not enough of you are following Antipoverty Centre—hit the Follow button on @antipovertycentre.org ‼️

Yes, 20% of suicide deaths are people on JobSeeker. Yes, 60% of working age adults who die are on a Centrelink payment. So what did Tanya Plibersek do in Anti-Poverty Week? Give $5 million to charities. FULL STATEMENT:

What you'll hear about at this event tomorrow: - change needed to remote area allowance, a $9 supplement payment for people in remote areas - challenging debts & accessing waivers for Centrelink & child support-related FTB debts - unlawful Centrelink payment cancellations & to assert your rights.

We are 24 years away from when the world needs to be at net zero carbon emissions. Fossil fuel infrastructure and even some appliances have about a 25-year design life. That means that every gas power plant, gas pipeline, or gas boiler you install today is a middle finger pointed at your grandkids.

So interest rates have to go up because we need 100,000s people to lose their jobs, but a climate catastrophe coal mine has to be expanded because we can't use 1,500 jobs? I'm not indifferent to the material conditions of workers, but this system sure is.

According to reports, at George Megalogenis' book launch, the PM said Tony Abbott calls him regularly. Dude. Why are you answering? You barely talk to your caucus, let alone rank and file members, but you're taking calls from Tony Abbott?

I wonder why this obviously dodgy company is getting kid-glove treatment? Couldn't be because the owners wife is the country's highest profile publicist?

Happy International Tenants’ Day! This day originated in 1986 by a French tenant organisation, and the International Union of Tenants. The day helps to raise awareness of tenants’ rights internationally. We believe that renters have the right to healthy homes! Join our project: tr.ee/AZ5kUl

I *love* that ABC News framed the Pre-COP as being about the cost of the event and which countries showed up, not, you know, THE CLIMATE CRISIS.

Our industrial pollution law (The Safeguard Mechanism) is being reviewed! A submission takes minutes but can make a world of difference. Tell the government by midnight Friday 18 September: Cap the offsets, and keep them out of reach for coal, oil and gas. 👉 bushfiresurvivors.org/safeguard

Hottest winter on record. Snow season closing weeks early. Records broken in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra. And spring's shaping up even hotter. This is what climate pollution from coal, oil and gas looks like for our alpine regions, but it's not too late to change course.

How had this been published with no mention of the actual IDF soldiers, credibly accused of war crimes, running in the marathon? We know *exactly* who was being targeted.

One of the first "outrageous" claims I saw as Jason Arday's media hounding unfolded was that he ran 30 marathons in 35 days! Wow! What a thing to claim! And the newspapers all suggested there was no evidence he actually did it. Well, they clearly didn't look very hard 🙄 🧵 1/26

I'm so embarrassed for the ABC. PHON bans them from media events and their response? An Australian Story puff piece on their lead MP. Have some self-respect.

i think the big data center backlash has a lot to do with technology getting worse, costing more, building a surveillance state, destroying the environment, owned by a class of wealthy elite that coalesced behind the fascist regime that made clear they’d sacrifice humanity for their own power growth

As the government passes cuts to the life-changing and life-saving disability services that your friends and family rely on, please know that the same government is also giving a half billion dollar fossil fuel subsidy to an already vastly profitable mining company that did nothing to deserve it.

I look forward to ALP apologists sorting out the future for my level 3 autistic kid because the "better than the other guys" party has sold out his future. You he's just as fucked when Labor does it, right?

I was 43 years old when I learned that 'not tested on animals' was an animal rights notice, rather than a warning to not wash my dog with this particular shampoo because they weren't sure how his coat would react.

To live as a Palestinian is to be told, every single day of your life, that you're subhuman, that you're inbred, that you're an animal, that you deserve to die — all things that have actually been said to my face — and then to be branded an extremist for daring to respond.
