Congress post-Myers cared about protecting some agency functions: “particularly adjudicatory functions— [they thought] there was no way that the businesses were going to buy into an [Art II] court that is politically controlled” You could make the same argument for grantmaking decisions too.

The generality principle of the Rule of Law is its most essential concept. A class of people outside criminal law is incompatible with a law-based society.

Shooting at a car to stop a shoplifter is not justified. Even if no one was harmed, let alone shooting to death a 1 year-old baby.

JUST IN: The police shooting that killed 1-year-old Kohen Wiley as he sat in his mother’s lap in a Walmart parking lot in Senatobia, Miss., in June “was justified,” Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s office said on Monday. Her office will not charge the white officer who shot the child.

Fascinating account showing how a false claim can become widely accepted (and propagated by multiple independent sources) as a result of a common academic shortcut: citing a source you haven't actually read after seeing it cited by another source: journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10....

This story makes it sound like the major problem is that the Trump Admin did this w/in 60 days of an election. Yes, that's a real abuse. But the major problem is they're basically threatening to denaturalize an opposition legislator, based on racist insinuations. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/12/u...

I am not sure any lawyer involved with this can safely fulfill their ethical requirements of zealous representation? What happens when Stephen Miller calls the office every day? You know what Congress write a rider specifically designated the pre-existing counsel network.

Another blow for unaccompanied immigrant minors. Now the Trump administration is taking over their legal representation. Yes, the same administration that is trying to deport them will also be the ones in charge of their defense. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

I am looking forward to this!

If “irreparable harm” means anything, it means being sent to a country you’ve never seen, where you may well be imprisoned, tortured, or killed, under a policy that (the cert grant implicitly acknowledges!) may well be illegal

#BREAKING: Over dissents from the three Democratic appointees, #SCOTUS grants a stay in the third-country removals case; clears way for Trump admin. to continue removing non-citizens without a full chance to litigate the conditions in those countries (while also taking up the full merits appeal).

A lot to like in this thread, but as the mom of two sons (now young adults), this idea was very important to me in my parenting.

Nicole Bedera@nbedera.bsky.social

And the last one I’ll mention is for mothers to set boundaries in their own relationships with their sons. The way he treats you is a model for how he treats all other women. If you succumb to the social pressure to make every sacrifice for him, he will expect the same of other women too.

Vought and Hegseth should be first up for impeachment if Dems retake Congress.

Don Moynihan@donmoyn.bsky.social

Vought is breaking the law but he is not “going rogue.” At his confirmation hearings, Vought told Republicans he would do this and they voted for him anyway. If they want to stop him, they still can via impeachment. They won’t.

I think something to consider here is that Collins voted to confirm Russ Vought as OMB Director despite the fact that he said a billion times that he thought Trump had a constitutional right to illegally impound funds, and now she’s doing shocked Pikachu reactions.

This is APPALLING. The Trump administration is detaining multiple random Somali immigrants with no criminal record at Guantanamo Bay, seemingly because the White House ordered ICE specifically to detain Somalis at Gitmo as part of its effort to punish an ethnic group Trump has attacked.

“The worst place ever I’ve been in my life," Sakariye Abdi Mohamed, a Somali asylum seeker, told me over the phone from Guantanamo Bay last week. Sakariye is one of 7 or 8 Somalis who are being held at Gitmo. They say guards tell them the order to keep Somalis at the facility comes from DC.

I was in the shower listening to NPR when the first plane hit. They reported it as an accident involving a small place. I still had the radio on when they reported that the second plane hit, at which point, it was clear that it was no accident. I immediately turned on the TV.

I was working as a paralegal in a law firm, where the support staff and files (us) were shunted to an accessory building's top floor. I was sitting at my desk listening to K97.5 / WQOK-FM. Post-attack, I remember the (wrong) reports of a car bomb at the State Department. Trump can remember 9/11.

It also shows how bankrupt and unprecedented (literally) SCOTUS’s evaluation of stay factors has been during Trump 2.

A Labor Day reminder: having a job is no longer enough to protect millions of Americans from homelessness. For many workers, the greatest threat isn't losing their job. It's that their job will never pay enough, never provide enough hours, never offer enough stability to keep them housed.
