ICE is an ideologically-driven jobs program for men willing to engage in violence on behalf of their authoritarian employer and it would help to view them as a state-sponsored paramilitary militia. And that's probably something to keep in mind as the economy is being imploded.

Alix and I co-organized *A Historian's Handbook for Saving the World* over Zoom, therefore, ZOOM UNBOXING PARTY. It will be open access on Nov. 17th at the link below. If you could ask your library to preorder a physical copy, that would be great for MIT Press, who made open access possible!

This is version 2.0 of saying that the smell of 🐖💩 is “the smell of money” and it’s just as false. Iowa has never been a big wheat 🌾 producing state btw, not even during early white settlement days. It’s always been corn 🌽 and hogs 🐖 . So much corn the government makes us force feed it to our cars.

I was shopping for water filtration systems for my new home this month and one of the places I checked out had a promo video the gist of which was "Hey, bad water is just the price Iowans pay for being the bread basket of America, which we all love of course!"

I'm a doctor and a dad. I rebuilt Detroit's health department, led Wayne County's Department of Health, Human and Veterans Services. We put glasses on kids, took on corporate polluters, eliminated medical debt. It just shouldn't be this hard to get by in the richest country in the world.

Again, the scandalous thing about Elon Musk spending $276 million on the 2026 midterms is NOT how *much* money it is. The scandal is how *little* money this is *to him.* Compared to his net worth, this is roughly equal to the median American my age spending $40.

This excellent thread is a reminder that SCOTUS made the President immune from any legal penalties for saying, "FBI, go raid my political enemies." I have yet to see a single positive consequence from that decision, though the negative ones continued to pile up.

There will be a lot of equivocating about all the times search warrants have been executed on members of Congress for corruption investigations and the like, and it can't be stressed enough in how many ways HSI raiding Ilhan Omar is extremely not like that.
