one way to think about dev infrastructure is: * smaller scale than typical large systems * distributed systems where some of the event sources are extremely diverse and chaotic (you and me) * required to be extremely rigorous, often due to law * intersects with challenging UX problems

spent some time looking at this last week and was very unimpressed. stacked diffs/patch series don't make nearly as much sense with a new commit + merge workflow as they do with an amend + rebase workflow. jj compat is alao dubious. going to stick with spr

I feel like word problems in math class would've been a lot more realistic if they just started describing random stuff, included *mostly* irrelevant detail, and then never clearly state any sort of question at all.

A successful social media app has two major investments 1. Recommendation algorithms (feeds, ads, etc) 2. Content moderation Bluesky is interesting because the origin story is Jack Dorsey wanting to outsource both of these to “the community” based on his time at Twitter. This was inevitable.

Having caught up on this: 1. The violent threats policy is probably the one I always fucking hate writing the absolute most, because our society has violent rhetoric baked into every level of our language and it is extremely difficult to write a policy that doesn't overfit or underfit.

You are up to date.
