As my life unfolds I try to face it with optimism, hard work, and a healthy dose of irreverence. As for you . . . Be nice and meet people where they’re at.

Oscar-winner Ryan Coogler recalling how a college writing professor pushed him to become a screenwriter & the possibility of #Sinners being taught in film curriculums someday: “I have so much respect for professors…for dedicating their life to future generations & making sure their minds are solid.”

Love the Buffy sledgehammer vibes from Joyce in #strangerthings (and think I can make a decent case for the whole thing as an allegory for perimenopause)

The name "Popular Science" doesn't mean we shift our coverage depending on public opinion. It means we cover relevant subjects that are rigorously researched, reliable, and grounded in reality. And trans lives are grounded in reality. We see y'all. No matter what. www.popsci.com/science/tran...

popsci.comFirst-of-a-kind study shows encouraging data for trans kids who socially transitionNinety-four percent of participants in a new study stood firm in their trans identity after five years, and "detransitioning" is rare.

Fascism is using us American Jews as moral human shields, covering its takeover with lies about protecting Jews. They aren’t. They’re pushing Jews into harm’s way, as some Jews become fools & believe it & some non-Jewish antifascists are fooled & believe it. Only fascism profits from this lie.

Thanks to his new Tesla pay package, Elon Musk could stand to make $3 billion more per year than all 1.4 million elementary school teachers in the U.S. combined. Still wondering if inequality is out of control?

ah, perhaps instead of pumping millions into endless factional infighting Dem donors could invest in making local Dem organizations genuine civic spaces that can reach people during and between elections

"Depends on who you ask" framing is one of the most grating tics in modern political journalism. Objective reality exists and your job is to describe it.

A classic case of irresponsible both-sidesism from the NYT. The story is that Trump and MAGA propagandists are lying about Portland to incite a conflict, not that there are different views of the matter.

Found my first “woke” shower in Florida of all places. There must have been women in on the design process to come up with the fabulousness. Men, don’t worry if you’re confused . . . it’s not about you.

Oh hey, so you just do owe people kindness. This “I don’t owe people anything” mentality is toxic. You simply do owe people things. This is part of being part of a society. You just DO owe people politeness and kindness.

AI as the killer of bad higher ed takes? "But this uninspired realism risks being upended by the emergence of AI, which exposes the vacuity of education as vocational training. How do you prepare yourself for a job market that can carry on more efficiently without you?"

Anyone out there hold stock in a public company and usually ignore the proxy vote info? Now’s the time to pay attention and make your voice heard on things like making the company hire a 3rd party human rights review board. #myownershipmyvoice

Fear & concern are coded feminine, so they get translated into anger, which feels more tough. Hurt & disappointment are coded feminine, so they get translated into outrage & aggrievement. The simple human need for love & affirmation is coded feminine, so it gets translated into demands & control.

Things still terrible, but: Viktor Orban was unable to stop protests in Budapest; Musk's money couldn't win the Wisconsin Supreme Court for Repugs; Marine Lepen is fuming over her court loss in Paris; and Corey Booker made a bravura stand against Trump in the Senate. More days like this please.

One thing Democratic leadership could do right now is to name an alternate HHS secretary--someone to provide ongoing public updates and health information. And do it for other departments too. Start showing voters what a Democratic government would look like--press conferences, speeches, all of it.

Rewatching early Cheers and am taken by TedDanson’s decision to make Sam so physically affectionate with the men in the bar. Coupled with his masculinity and authentic emotion from the other male characters, this seems a nice alternative to today’s toxic masculinity.

Conservatives have substituted "DEI" for their old trope: "affirmative action," as their polite way of saying only white men are qualified to do anything significant. Slightly more sophisticated sounding, television-friendly, guttersnipe racism is still racism.

Christopher Webb@cwebbonline.com

DEI is the bogeyman for those who believe that if I’m gaining, they must be losing. The idea that everything would be fine if only white men ran the world is a weak argument—clung to by insecure men who can’t handle reality. DEI ensures women & BIPOC are looked at fairly IN ADDITION to white men.
