Periodic reminder that the biggest scandal in American history outside of Watergate involved a grand total of $9 million (inflation adjusted) changing hands & it resulted in resignations, convictions, jail time, and new legislation, and in the Trump administration that amount is a rounding error

Billions of dollars’ worth of contracts predicting oil would fall and the S&P 500 would rise were placed about 15 minutes before Trump announced a U-turn on Iran in a post on Truth Social. CFTC staff began to investigate...then were told to lay off. www.bloomberg.com/news/feature...

I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.

This was kind of a mind blowing way to conceptualize it for me. It seems unique but fitting to a "melting pot" country with a lot of people that do have "mother countries".

My family moved here before WW2, so I have never associated myself with Israel beyond the strained way a lot of American Jews do. But let's not pretend we dont all (even against conscious judgment) associate people who are associatable with a mother country.

These big AI companies should be held civilly and/or criminally liable and prosecuted when their models hurt people. They don’t get a free pass just because they’ve now decided to admit to the dangers of what they’ve created.

Republicans should definitely do this. And every republican in congress should have to answer for their association with Mace.

What’s your ‘that’s ok, I’ll keep drinking that garbage’ product? As in: it is bad, you know it is bad, think it is bad that is bad, do not anticipate it becoming good, you do have to buy it, and you know you will also continue to purchase it into the indefinite future?

Exactly! He is progressive! And he is a good candidate- dude got his start under Feingold. This wasn't a referendum on DSA vs Centrist politics. Only takeaways are these: Polling doesnt do what people think, and lots of people are very stupid about holidays.

I think an important piece of this is also that Crowley is a pretty conventional center-left Dem rather than an ostentatious centrist like Stevens.

Few better examples of Wilhoit's Law than republicans exploring another other country's treatment of ethnic minorities.

21st century America is a multiracial democracy whose commerce, culture and cuisine reflect the influence of immigrants from every country on earth. The only people seemingly unable to assimilate into this society are white Republicans.

I actually think this bears repeating: Our Director of National Intelligence was just shown to *literally be taking secretive orders about what precisely to do and say in politics* from a scary cult leader in Hawaii And it wasn’t even front-page news How am I supposed to react to this?

Dan Silverman@dmsilverman.bsky.social

This is one of the most strange, fascinating, and unsettling stories — and one of the best pieces of reporting — I’ve read about American politics in my life. Tulsi Gabbard took orders for her stances and bills in Congress (+ since?) from a secretive Hawaiian cult leader who wants to rule the world
