Edinburgh SFF

'A WORK OF GENIUS.' Not my words, Carol, the words of Anna Jones in the Radio Times.

Happy Friday and some good news to share! Thrilled to have received an award grant from @creativescots.bsky.social to write my next book! This one's inspired by Scottish folklore, specifically Orcadian, and I'm excited the grant will also support a research trip next year to Orkney! Can't wait! 🌊✨

Join us in person or online for Cymera's 2027 Writers' Retreats ✍️ Our online writing retreat will run from 29–31 Jan. Then, from 4–8 Mar, we'll return to the Scottish Borders for our second in-person retreat, after a resounding success earlier this year! www.cymerafestival.co.uk/writers-retr...

We're on a short break from our main episodes, but we've dropped an episode of @narrativedamagerpg.bsky.social to keep you entertained! In 90s New York, 4 Delta Green agents are activated to investigate missing kids and a mysterious mansion... Watch: youtu.be/5vl3jVcmLdU Listen: linktr.ee/ukpageone

A cracking evening yesterday at the Waterstones launch of the GSFWC 40th anniversary book, Haverin, edited by Brian M. Milton @munchkinstein.bsky.social, Heather Valentine @hexthervvv.bsky.social and my big bro, Peter Morrison @remotecore.bsky.social !

On behalf of the editors, authors and artist of Haverin, thank you to everyone who came to celebrate #GSFWC40 #Haverin with us last night! We're immensely grateful to you (and Waterstones Sauchiehall ST!) for helping us give our wee book the send off it deserved.

This month's pinching, so reposts of this are greatly appreciated. And please do check this out. See a selected ToC by following the link! I am a real writer and this is drawing on my real experience for you to benefit. bibliotta.com/product/sell...

How bizarre, I appear to have slipped up onto the stage to impersonate someone who knows what they're doing. This should not be allowed.

The Society of Authors has withdrawn from the ill-conceived concession to the dark side that was the "ethical GenAI" charter because of the mass and vocal outrage of authors. Publishers need to be made afraid of this level of anger too.

Tomorrow! Looking forward to catching up with everyone again, and introducing new folk to the anthology.

Posting this for myself for reasons

An absolutely stonking review from the lovely Womble! "... a story for those who would prefer something that is a little less frightening and more mysterious and very very engaging. Offering adventure, history, romance and most of all exquisite storytelling combined with wonderful character work."

So, I'm still going with the #ScottishSFF from Glasgow 2024 to @pictcon.bsky.social, which takes place tomorrow. Unfortunately, I myself am not going to PictCon because I'm ill, but in lieu of my presence I offer con-goers this review of @emfaulds.com's lovely collection, These Broken Little Worlds.

Guardbridge will be publishing an anthology next spring, "Things That Eat Good Intentions". Many of the writers, editors, and artists involved were at Fanatsycon in Glasgow this weekend. Many of us met up on Saturday night for a toast to the new project.

who could have possibly foreseen this

On behalf of everyone at Clarkesworld, we would like to thank all the subscribers who joined during our recent subscription drive. Because of you, we've been able to give all our staff and contributors a raise for our 20th anniversary.
