For the past few weeks instead of reading the news i have been making a handheld game console. It has a 1.7" display and a 400Mhz CPU. The front is a trackpad. It does not go online. It does one thing (plays Go), and hopefully does that better than anything else that fits in a coin pocket.

If i were marty supreme i would simply not have lost that first ping pong game

I do think it's important to give grace to people who realize they made the wrong choice. I don't want to. but other nicer people def should do that. I dont give a shit.

"Voters have a regret or two, and we've seen this in poll after poll. The regret has grown since the beginning of Trump's presidency" -- Enten unpacks polling showing that Kamala Harris would easily beat Donald Trump if they were both on the ballot again next month

doing the "nolan's cyclops / satan devouring his son" thing to one of those horrific little meta muse avatars. i bet they would taste like plastic and insect blood

I don't mean to be melodramatic here, but make sure to check in on your friends. There is upheaval coming, and it's coming for identity, not just work.

Already hearing lots of anecdotes of 3d modelers losing all their gigs, just like the copywriters did a year or two ago. This doesn't kill all animation, but if you talk to people who do light youtube animation, they will tell you upping quality has no effect on views. This is good enough.

holy crap !

NEW: Flock is offering employees "generous" buyouts as communities across the US push back against the surveillance camera network, @wired.com has learned. @peard33.bsky.social and @dmehro.bsky.social with the scoop: www.wired.com/story/flock-...

How has the snapchat company somehow not run out of money yet Can someone please explain this to me

for two months, I've been flying drones over Flock cameras to situation them in space and geography; I even got my commercial drone license in order to do it. I'd like to share this project with you all: it's called Records Of Enemy Surveillance: recordsofenemysurveillance.com

so my village has been having a lot of issues. rather than deal with any of them, i grabbed a goat and had all the villagers pile their blame and hate onto the goat. while we were getting ready to drive it into the woods (and absolve ourselves) the goat BIT ME????? RUDE?!?

I think you could make a very cheap and inconspicuous device that looks just about exactly like a meta glasses charger but actually just dumps a ~36-50V pulse thru the charging terminals :)) Constant current step-up drivers for display backlights and camera flashes cost like 15 cents :)))

"but those power rails cap out at 20mA, they probably won't do shi" ok how about this one then big guy

for example, if Sam Altman had instead tweeted “there‘s a material risk that someone will figure out how to kill people by using LLMs to hack remote infrastructure and turn off ventilation or cause electrical shorts“, that would be a level of alarm appropriate to the situation. but he can’t say that

spotted this on taobao. can someone let me know if this device was invented recently, if it happened before i was born and i just missed it, or if its some kind of collective hallucination

I built a custom art installation / instrument for Eaux Claires and I'm so pleased with how it turned out! 3 modes: play live, record, or play back. Each recording got a custom receipt that could be scanned for playback 450+ people recorded music on it and it played 400,000 notes in 2 days

these people booing sound like literal sheep as Darline Graham criticizes Dr. Annie Andrews for supporting "government-run healthcare" before bragging of her parents that "if they were sick, they had to get up and go to work...my mother passed away when I was 11 and my father just over a year later"

instead of gemini in google drive could we maybe get the option to sort a directory by size

in the details sidebar could we maybe say how many files are in a folder and/or how big they are

imagine a future where *we* appropriate the vicious symbolism of ICE in a merciless crack-down billionaires and the MAGA class: fancy production value videos of bashing down their fancy doors, slapping bags over their spray-tanned heads, black helicopters, shattered ugly gold homewares, etc etc

Musk should be forced to use his personal wealth to clean it up. Clean the moon, you dead eyed haddock-faced bitch. What do you mean it's too hard? you were going to have a city living on Mars as soon as 8 years ago. Do it by Tuesday.

i imagine that "sam altman pays jony ive a billion dollars and asks him to build 'iphone, but for chatgpt'" is going roughly as well as (hypothetical) "elon pays christopher nolan a billion dollars to make odyssey sequel with all-white cast, written by grok".

i'm sure ive is miserable! he's an artist that's being bribed to build something that's simultaneously derivative of, and insulting to, his own prior work, and he's reminded everyday that he's nothing without his team.. that now can't talk to him. i don't feel sorry for him tho (butterfly keyboard)

openai would have gotten more bang for their buck hiring jeff koons to make ai balloon dog

so openai is now doing what they do best - stealing, and burning bridges - imagining they'll fill the gap by poaching a few more apple execs who can manipulate their dumbest, most expendable junior engineers into stealing company secrets

and guaranteeing that no one involved in this dumpster fire will ever be able to come close to the actual talent, again. hilarious, completely predictable self own.

they intentionally hired one of the most spoiled auteur designers on the planet: someone who's used to being able to ask for any exotic manufacturing process imaginable and have his guys stand up a factory in Malaysia to do it before end of month;

but just because you hire jony ive does not mean you also magically hire his transcontinental team of process engineering wizards that can extrude finely woven aluminum speaker grilles through a cheese grater. and without access to those people he's just a guy drawing rectangles on cocktail napkins.
