Being a big Star Trek fan, I briefly considered going to a prerelease for MTG against my Universes Beyond... boycott? I usually take a break whenever one of those sets comes out. But one look at the spoiler list really set me straight because my god does this whole set look like hot garbage.

In addition to our 7/9 Deep space 9 costs 9, Discovery Discovers, there is a Command Chair for Commanders. Can you feel the flavor, are you in the Star Trek Zone now

Here's our most iconic ship, a 4/6 flyer that doesn't do anything when you play it and has a delayed gratification card draw theme for some reason

Data's cat is a starship destroyer, which is at least slightly funny bottom up design, but also, how did they mess up drawing a cat this bad where does this cat end

When beaming people up you cause things to recur from the graveyard while returning your creatures to your hand. Probably there are other things that could better symbolize teleportation but we are Out of Ideas

Do you remember Q's playing card fetish because I don't. Also, I don't know why but every single character's art is this lightly shiny uncanny valley where I can see every detail of the actors face and somehow feel like they are an imposter.

See, it's Seven of Nine. You can tell what's interesting about her because she turns into a 7/9. So we can assume that she's a very large woman who really cares about ecodiversity

I've been thinking a lot about Snow Crash, which envisioned a dystopic and fractured United States that was only the best at four things: Music, Movies, Microcode, and High Speed Pizza Delivery. Lately it feels like it could just be pizza delivery

I find it genuinely odd how bad trend-chasing is at iterating certain successful archetypes. Lately it seems like every game is a roguelike deck builder and only 2-3 have gotten close to even matching Slay the Spire's careful balancing act. No farming sim has ever exceeded Stardew.

For a while it seemed like Slay the Spire would never be made better and it's almost disappointing that the people who succeeded the most are Slay the Spire's main team making Slay the Spire again.

as a transgender person i have to admit i hold journalists in a very low level of esteem bc as a class they kind of did all hop on board with manufacturing consent for the project of exterminating the minority group im a part of

I would simply like to live my quiet little life as a trans woman and buy fruit and sing and walk my dog and wave to my neighbors and watch movies and use restrooms without being the subject of a culture “war” where both political parties agree I’m a disgusting freak who doesn’t deserve civil rights

the trans community’s demand is eminently reasonable: “democrats need to treat trans people as equal partners in their political coalition or trans people will not be partners at all.” so, democrats: do you want to win or not?

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

The vitriol directed at me and other members of the trans community for having the audacity to declare our votes are not to be taken for granted. By cisgender people who otherwise have called themselves allies. I wish it weren’t so utterly predictable.

One of my less popular beliefs is that you aren't serious about dealing with the problem of our big tech oligarchy if you completely disregard capital punishment for C-suites and founders. Thiel, Zuckerberg and Musk are all guilty of treason by any reasonable definition.

Sitting down for Spider-Man, 3 minutes early, genuinely the preroll had some sort of interview where Tom Holland spoils a late scene in the movie and also possibly the entire premise? A little disgusted right now.

Yep, second to last scene in the movie and enough of the premise that I pretty much could track the whole film by theme. Bonkers. Not a fan.

i think if you're serious about rebooting a legacy franchise in the 2020s, you need to make it about lesbians. if you just reboot it without lesbians it shows a lack of interest in anything other than keeping the license active.

ah good, the Republican Project 2025 was a playbook for rolling out Christofascism and the Democrats have responded with Project 2029, a plan for permanent electoral irrelevance

alpha @omarsbigsister.bsky.social

Dems' "Project 2029" first major policy proposal: an online child safety plan — narrowing Sec. 230, banning social media for kids under 16, promoting phone-free childhoods and more. Already backed by Cory Booker, Mikie Sherrill, Randi Weingarten + Jonathan Haidt. LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Oh fuck OFF, Dems. The most Boomer ass shit I’ve ever heard. Social media is a part of life now (and good, it allows younger people to find their community). Kids are going to have smart phones. There is no holding back this technology. The point should be educating children to use it RESPONSIBLY.

Me: *touching my girlfriend* My girlfriend: *touching me* Me (thinking to myself): This is so fucked up of me. I'm being so selfish rn. I'm getting to feel her touch AND to touch her. What's she even getting in return? Probably nothing comparable.

why am i just finding out about ICE terrorizing this city and people? why is no one in the media talking about this beyond independent outlets? this is horrifying

Marisa Kabas@marisakabas.bsky.social

JUST NOW from @statuscoupnews.bsky.social livestream — ICE agents outside Delaney Hall in Newark, NJ pushed a protester into an 18-wheeler causing the truck to run over his leg. They then pinned him on the ground and carried him away.

Saw a video where someone played 67 final fantasy titles and then produced a list of hot takes so devastatingly bad they refuse to leave my brain
