Ichthyosaurs were lizards pretending to be dolphins pretending to be fish. They evolved from air-breathing land reptiles (diapsids) that returned to the sea, shed legs & grew flippers. Being a swimming lizard with LUNGS has some surprising challenges elucidated by the fossil record.
The rib structure of #Ichthyosaurs may have helped them with swimming to greater depths #pixelart #ドット絵 #SciArt #paleoart

Not for nothing but PBS does election night coverage and we work really really really hard on it. Union shop as well!
Scoop from @brettlogiurato.bsky.social: CBS has sold its local election night coverage to DraftKings, stirring more controversy inside the David Ellison-owned company. Details in @status.news: www.status.news/p/cbs-draftk...

Hello #portfolioday I am Doug Wood, disabled comic creator. I recently was a Ringo nominee and begun to take on paying writing, lettering and coloring work. Please take a look at my portfolio and reach out to me if you want to hire me! www.jumpstartcomic.com
Think how much better things would be if simple intellectual curiosity were more valued. Wanting to learn new things just because you find them interesting and would like to understand them better! The opposite animating principle from AI, really. Anyway. Go to law school. For me.
I've thought about going to law school as an old person just because I would be interested in learning the law - I would have absolutely no interest in practicing or actually using the degree.

I’m flying home to British Columbia right now and I promise you I will get to the bottom of these Canadian death panels upon my arrival. I mean, I would think I would have heard of death panels. That sort of thing usually makes the news. Maybe they call it something different in metric.
Mike Rogers claims that El-Sayed "supports the death panels that Canada implemented" 🤔

TODAY: @sarahweinman.com on the unanswered questions of “Slam Frank.” “Slam Frank is looking to deliver a different experience to its audience. But what, exactly? The musical seems to spend the entirety of its 110-minute runtime trying to figure that out.” flaminghydra.com/whos-owned-b...

For the evening crowd!
I have a new novella out in the 20th Anniversary edition of Clarkesworld this month! "The Job" is about a woman with serious self-image issues who takes a contract to survey an alien ocean for corporate exploitation, wearing the body of a bioengineered whale. clarkesworldmagazine.com/bear_10_26/
www.cbc.ca/news/canada/... The parallels between these two stories is honestly shocking. The settings are different, but none of the themes are, and both end the same way: with groups of pseudo-royal men only briefly inconvenienced, while the woman is forced behind a pseudonym and into hiding.
I read @fritinancy.bsky.social religiously, but I’m going to need a second coffee to steel myself before I open this email

This is among the most insane sentences to ever have been written. I mean I haven’t done an exhaustive search but it’s got to be up there.
There has been a great effort over many years to distance AI Safety discussion and policy from its origins and intellectual center, because its center is a sex cult started by a fan fiction author. If you want to be taken seriously you have to hide that.

twice a year, a weird dude would get up on a stage in a turtleneck and throw a handful of new gizmos and doodads at us and we'd all lose our fucking minds now, some creep steps out and tells us that the new rectangle listens to you having sex and knows what your kids look like naked

Because the internet is big and stupid (I am also both of these things so maybe that is deflection) I didn’t realize Pip and Gunko were on Instagram, but of course they are, and are great, and a delightful follow
speaking of IG, if you are on there and have the slightest interest, please give pip and gunko a follow over there. the big downside of doing it as a webcomic is that if i ever want to pitch it to a publisher in the future, i'll need to prove there are numbers, so following/subscribing helps a LOT.
