Citing rate is off the charts. 44.9% have voted as of 2pm. In 2022 it was 38.9%. This is the highest mid-day reported voting rate ever. They highest on record until now was 1973 when they began reporting and that was 41.4%. We’re in high 70% (or more) territory at this pace.

Media reports that the voting rate is the highest it’s been since 1981. At 10 am we were at 16.68% compared to 15.9% in 2022. No definitive answer as to who it favors but my hunch is that the liberal camp. Remember that Israel is a single voting district so you can only drill down so much.

I am planning to be at the Talarico rally in Lubbock on Tuesday. TX (like many states) is a mosaic of blue urban counties and red rural ones. Little purple anywhere. Lubbock is a (rare) red urban county. The key to Senate wins is not carrying Trumpy counties. It's moving their margins to 60-40.

This has always been the case. Having grown up in an agricultural economy, I have spent most of my life in awe of their ability to take pride in being independent and wanting the government out of their lives while also complaining when their subsidy checks were late or grazing fees increased.
As his policies bankrupt them, Trump-supporting farmers fully embrace socialism. But only if it’s for them.

If this does indeed happen, then Congress holds a whole lot of special committee investigations and hauls these people in to testify (they can't plead the 5th if there is no threat of prosecution) and send them to jail if they don't testify, or for perjury where appropriate.

There was a fucking hole in our planet’s *atmosphere* Like a legit, no joke, “this will unravel our entire ecosystem” hole in the world, and then we fixed it by working together across national and political lines As a species we decided, “we will survive” Let’s do that some more

Almost anything technology related, medicine and medical treatments (although not necessarily the health care system), access to information (even if the quality is sometimes suspect), cars, and homes to name just a few.

This is terrifying. A bird flu outbreak has been raging uncontrolled on a mink farm for months. Experts fear it could spark a devastating human pandemic. And officials are refusing to act. What a story from @natlash.bsky.social: www.propublica.org/article/bird...

And finally keeping at it, year-in, year-out demands not ironic detachment but sincere, even 'cringe,' commitment - of the kind that feels like vulnerability. It is not enough to be angry all the time, you must also be grieved and sorrowful and even sometimes joyous too.

Actually, positive change is slow, difficult and incremental by nature. Destroying is fast, building is slow. It is easy to bring misery to people - any idiot can do it, as Trump shows - but very hard to improve their conditions. Building a better society is slow, careful, patient work.

It turns out that choosing the lesser of two evils is, in fact, a moral imperative. And some folks want to wait for the Revolutionary Perfect, but I would equally challenge them to demonstrate a single time where a 'start from nothing, year-0' revolution has turned out well for most people.

Kanter wanted to walk out into the crowd surrounded by security, so he could look like a martyr or the cause. And the WNBA and the Dream said. "Or you can sit in this room all by yourself."
If your first reaction to the WNBA's Enes Kanter move last night was anger, dig deeper. It was checkmate. And for the first time in a while, it was exactly the right move.

Seen this story all day today. Every headline says "27 year old Minnesota man..." I have yet to see one with the headline that the man was Somalian. The most maligned and denigrated group in Minnesota www.goodmorningamerica.com/news/story/2...

Huge follow-up reporting to my scoop: The Guardian confirmed America Next—the conservative nonprofit founded by Bobby Jindal that was offering students $ to disrupt El-Sayed events—paid a firm registered to Tommy Teepell’s dad Timmy $250k for “canvassing and influencer marketing” against El-Sayed.

Not much mystery, the article itself lays out why — not enough of a charging network; too expensive; no trucks. Also the latest spike in gas prices hasn’t lasted long enough to change the cars we buy. Why would I buy a different car based on something we all hope is temporary?
For all the angst over high gas prices, Americans are buying surprisingly few electric cars, Andrew Moseman writes. He explores what it will take for drivers to actually embrace EVs.
Yes, the cruelty, the grift, the racism, the fascism, the violence committed, and the lawlessness all matter far more than this -- but good lord, sometimes the pure stupidity just overwhelms all of it and, for a minute, I just want somebody who doesn't sound like an idiot to be President.
Trump on Canada: "I promised them if they become the 51st state, I said, 'I will let you keep ice hockey and I will let you keep your O Canada national anthem.'"
