Since 2004, this community has helped make Firefox and the open internet possible. Our “Come Back to Firefox” campaign reunites a few early internet icons to remind people what made the internet special, and why it’s worth protecting.

Fun tidbit about Crosspoint, I was dreading entering my wifi password on the device, luckily it has a hotspot with a nice local URL that allows you to change the settings on your phone/laptop, including wifi password!

I’m getting an Xteink soon and plan to set it up as a lanyard for a conference :3 With a qr code and maybe an nfc tag if I cat set it up in time

I think losing my flow was almost certainly worse than losing data. I haven’t been able to return back to this task, hope I can get a bit done today

This mini saga put a speed bump on my transition to Nix and breaking free from fascist hosting provider that rhymes with incel I can probably get back to work this weekend

I’m meeting some friends tomorrow in person that I haven’t seen like forever and want to demonstrate my NixOS achievements. T.T

A lot of people who didn’t think they were getting behind successfully called it Not me personally I simply found ralphs and ponytails and cavemen cringe

a weird inversion with LLMs is the models improve faster than the tinkerers when i see people with custom workflows and setups they're all addressing problems that don't exist anymore the person naively using vanilla codex is more likely to be experiencing state of the art

You’re never gonna goo again, Jell-o cube ain’t got no rhythm, Though it’s easy to pretend, I know you’re made of ooze. Should have known better than to fight a cube, And waste the arrows from my quiver, So I’m gonna have to fletch some more, When I kill this cu-uu-ube.

As a Turkish software eng, I’m disheartened to see more than one high profile Turkish dev join absolutely deplorable companies. This is very opportunistic and reprehensible, makes me question our moral fiber.

Can’t we believe two things at the same time? Like copyright is bad but also AI labs using our materials to make a profit is also bad.

They replaced the motherboard, which means the soldered on disk Luckily I had a few days old Time Machine backup on an external drive. Nix store is intentionally excluded from backups so I had to re-set it, which was a good opportunity to move from DetSys installer to the official fork.

Can everyone just stop slopping up landing pages, for like, a second? Clicking a link on the orange site I can never tell if it’s a new startup, an open source project, or someone’s shiny new “skill” (or “dotfiles”)

Pls help me find it 😭

I didn't expect a random background music from a 90s fantasy sitcom Ruhsar to go this hard. I want to find out who made this song and listen to more of their stuff.

My Macbook broke all of a sudden and is at the service now, no Nix for me for a few days :(

I was also able to stress test that awkward state where most Nix artifacts are present but not the Nix store virtual drive. It took a few tries but now I have a brand new Nix and nix-darwin installation. It’s amazing to see how far Nix has come along in terms of user experience.

God, grant me the courage to change the things I can and incredible new powers to change the things I can't.

There's a chasm between easy-to-use but imperative vs declarative but hard-to-use that's in my opinion totally artificial. Not enough tools overcome this by making the UI user-friendly but making the output the source of truth. Some examples: Gparted - Disko nix install - environment.systemPackages

I find the LLM technology fascinating, and personally use it in my work and personal projects (trying to be as ethical as possible in my personal use) But I'm getting increasingly convinced that it's bad for us. Not like water usage or theft aspect, or its dangers, but when it works as designed.

I'm trying to be hopeful that we'll adapt and even though it looks grim now it'll get better, but the worst aspect is that it's not going to be equally distributed. The rich is already investing everything they have in it and I have no reason to believe that they'll be willing to share the spoils.

The balances throughout the history acted like a pendulum that'd swing back when things went too far, but this time it may be different. This is a generational technology that may help us destroy everything we know, and there may be no coming back from this. Hope that I'll be wrong about this.

It's already replacing human connection and destroying communities. And I'm afraid they aren't coming back. Yes, it's easier to ask a chatbot than an actual person, but there was more than just getting an answer & we're losing the track of that. AI is trained on that and that well's being dried up.

There's also the sycophancy aspect that will never go away no matter how much you tune it. When you have a genie that'll do whatever you ask for it, no matter how dumb, that's going to affect people's psyche. That used to be only for the rich select people, now it's democratized and it's not okay.

My cat has been sick, which has made me feel so terrible and anxious, I can hardly function. She's 19.5 years old and has been with me forever. I fear we're nearing the end and I love her so much. If you have a pet, please give them a kiss for me. Take them out for a walk tomorrow; give them a treat

After countless hours, I think I have my NixOS + k3s based homemade PaaS ready. Push to deploy, almost fully automated. I have moved my first side project off fascist triangle hosting provider too: kelime-oyunu.6nok.org There’s a bunch more to do, but things are going well!

TIL someone popularized a term for this, which is “cognitive dark forest”: ryelang.org/blog/posts/c...

I think one of the unfortunate consequences of widespread use of LLMs is that the public internet is eventually going to be permanently diminished since LLMs strongly discourage public sharing of information (whether that's due to hosting costs or LLMs plagiarizing public work)

Why hasn’t anyone built a chart library with reusable parts, and called it chartreuse (color)? I wanted to do it but never got around to it. Free idea for anyone to steal.
