it makes me really happy that the farsi word for big is bozorg, thats basically onomatopoeia for the concept of bigness

I’m thinking of a number between 1 and 39402006196394479212279040100143613805079739270465446667948293404245721771497210611414266254884915640806627990306815

One of my favorite Muppet stories is how more than once, when Kermit was on a talk show, the production crew was confused by how bad the sound was for Kermit only to realize that they had put the mic on Kermit, because of course you would put the mic on Kermit.

[carefully crafting a letter to the deans explaining that the entirety of history from 5000BCE to 1945 is still worth hiring ~1.5 professors to teach about because actually it laid a lot of the intellectual and practical groundwork for the compressed air thrusters that have transformed our world]

A thing about running LLMs on top of everything is that the everything they're on top of is a mess

Robin’s been doing fascinating visualization work in this area, such that I am now not only invested emotionally in NESO’s B4/B5 onshore reinforcement schedule, but also pronouncing “schedule” properly

Here's the cumulative volume of curtailment and turn-up actions over the past week… We had a particularly heavy period of transmission constraint throughout September, both in terms of energy volume as well as cost. Why? ⬇️

Itō Jakuchū's 'Frog' of 1790 for me is the iconic image of numbed uncomfortable bafflement at the predicament of existence in the coming modern world, much as Munch's 'Scream' expressed it through horror.

Start by offering little miniature vans to warhammer enthusiasts and then slowly give them bigger ones over time

Kevin Hearne@kevinhearne.bsky.social

How do we incentivize people to paint wizards on their vans again I haven’t seen a wizard van in a decade and it feels like we lost something precious Can we offer up a tax credit? Little bags of shrooms? Start a wizard van painting program at vocational schools?

Toward the end of his life, my extremely laconic Nordic grandfather would sit in a chair for hours. My grandmother asked him: "How can you just sit there all day?" ... "Practice"

Jesse Raub@jesseraub.online

got to watch nothern minnesota guy yesterday order lunch. turkey sandwich. nothing in it, just the turkey. white bread. catholicism tells you to feel guilt over desire; nordic protestantism frees you from desire itself

Very well done – and apparently down to at least z16 in many places!

I've made an interactive map for exploring the terrain of the world! It uses @mapterhorn.com data and tiles, and WebGL for dynamic colors and animations. relief.bertspaan.nl/world?lang=en

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

I picked the wrong week to carve a stone stele commemorating the only two polyhedra with this property

Gary Hoppenworth@garytho.bsky.social

It turns out someone posted a third polyhedron with this property to arxiv a week ago lol arxiv.org/pdf/2609.177...

Having difficulty keeping a neutral view of the Kennedy Center news as I was once in my youth compelled to sing onstage there for television, which I was not expecting and did not enjoy.

but for real there is no meaning in the Large Context Collider, even the best faith gets repackaged into bad faith sausage, it’s a trap
