A 2025 Nobel Prize winner in chemistry, Omar Yaghi is the son of Palestinian refugees who grew up in Jordan. He just left the US to move to China after raising concerns about rising anti-immigrant sentiment, like the kind shown here. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/china-than...

RIP Walter Koenig. Thank you for providing me with so much joy throughout my life. #babylon5 #koenig #chekov

George Takei@georgetakei.bsky.social

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

What an amazing life. What an amazing person. Be seeing you, Mr. Bester. <3

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

I know it's rude to do so, so I won't, but it is SOOO tempting to put the anonymous, low-follower accounts that pop up in my mentions to say "nuh-uh! LLMs *are* useful" on blast. >>

STOP! PHP is a perfectly ok language, but it doesn’t power 70% of the Internet. - by its own measurement, it powers about 2/3 of web domains (not the internet) - the overwhelming majority of those domains no/low traffic WordPress blogs - very few of the top 100 sites by traffic OR revenue run PHP

70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead: www.ispot.tv/ad/SoDi/micr...

Props to the ad agency: they nailed the "white person who plagiarises and steals credit using LLMs" look with 100% accuracy

since California ballots are now out: prop 40 is the billionaire tax, and you should vote yes to stick it to them but both props 41 and 42 are designed to retroactively cancel the billionaire tax because they’re afraid they can’t beat it at the ballot box yes on 40, no on 41 and 42

This emirita Penn professor is a hero, and this arrest is absurd: giving rights to corporate robots over tax-paying human citizens? It's ridiculous we allow billion dollar corporations to flaunt ADA and use our sidewalks for free. They should be banned from Philly www.phillyvoice.com/philly-woman...

Of course Kash Patel wants to hand the UFC a NO-BID contract to train FBI agents. The UFC is a sports entertainment business. The FBI already trains agents in defensive tactics. And we’re supposed to believe Dana White, Trump’s buddy, runs the only organization in America qualified to do this.

I’m glad time has vindicated Sebulba. Everyone was so cruel to him because he “tried to kill a child” during the Boonta Eve Classic even though he was literally Darth Vader

I'm not a Figma user, but would like to give a shout out to the Figma team. I administer GitHub Enterprise for our organization, and just received a request from the GitHub Figma integration for LESS permissive access. This is incredibly rare and a testament to their team being responsible.

Lane Johnson retired, one of the greatest NFL players ever. He rejected "tough guy" bullshit: his humility and courage saved lives. An NFL offensive lineman so open and vulnerable to share his mental health struggles. He's a Hall of Fame football player and a Hall of Fame human being.

Lane Johnson retired today. Not surprising. Possibly the most valuable player in Eagles history. The Eagles are 93-41-1 since 2017 with Johnson, and 13-21 when he’s out.

I will always admire Lane for eschewing the tough guy nonsense, and taking care of his mental health. For talking about it publicly. This helps fight the stigma. Thank you Lane… for everything.

Abdul El-Sayed on Fox News: "I think about MLK. He said this thing I always think about -- 'If your coalition is not uncomfortable, it's not big enough.' A lot of people wonder why I'm having this conversation with you. It's because there are people out there who I want to have a conversation with."

Here's how many plays the #Eagles have had per drive to start the second half, by week: Week 1: 3, 3, 3 Week 2: 3, 7, 3 Week 3: 3, 3, 3 Week 4: 3, 3, 4: turnover on downs on a failed Brotherly Shove. MAYBE try something a little bit different?!

A blue wave in the midterm elections won’t fix everything. Frankly, none of the immediate problems Americans face will be better immediately, because that isn’t how government works. And that’s all the more reason we need to push as many republicans out as possible now. (Thread)
