Unpopular opinion, but a lot of this "doing it right" mentality is how we wind up with games all feeling the exact same. Difficulty spikes, weird controls, ropey onboarding all of it critical to prevent games feeling like they're ground down and pumped out safe mush. www.reddit.com/r/gamedev/s/...

The ONLY problem with Dino Riders is that they had those guys with gun turrets on one side of a dimetrodon’s sail so that from one side enemies couldn’t see them, and then the dimetrodon would turn and BAM! But they used this, their very best idea, in episode 1. There was no way to go but down.

I've been running gdcparties.com for a few years now. Some shitty company BlueberryAI decided they'd just take all the source code for the work I've done and reskin it, advertising it as their own. New games weren't scarce in the 90s, but you could've easily played most of the hits. Now there's so many masterpieces that everyone has their personal endless backlog of amazing content. AI slop shouldn't be able to thrive in a market bursting with so many human-made, genuine banger pieces of art.
