The DMV must reform and take away the licenses of dangerous drivers. And the state (and counties and cities) must do more to make driving unnecessary for as many people as possible. We've created and normalized an unsafe system, and the system needs to be changed.

Another Waymo crash w a heavy truck. OP didn't post any more info. Waymo's redacted crash report expected ~mid-December. OP: tiktok.datlatindave, LA

Yes but there are no bears in space. Or rattle snakes.

Absolutely not. Humans evolved to live on Earth and there’s no other place that has the right amount of everything we need, like climate, liquid water, mix of oxygen and non-toxic gases in the atmosphere, magnetic field, gravity, puppies, kittens, etc.

“I’m not going to do a voter guide” Proceeds to do a really nice … guide!

Cyrus Hall@cyrushall.bsky.social

I'm not doing a voter guide, but here are some CA state votes that I think deserve your attention: * Insurance Commissioner: Vote Ben Allen. Kim's plan would suck even more money out of cities to pay for houses that never should have been built in fire-prone areas. It's decidedly not socialist.

If Connie Chan had her way, there would still be cars driving and parking on JFK Promenade. If she is elected to Congress, it's a safe bet that she will consistently vote to fund more high-speed roads, fewer bike lanes, fewer bus lanes, and fewer pedestrian spaces.

Patrick Siegman@siegman.biz

There's often little daylight between Trump's transportation chief, who works to block transit, bike, & pedestrian projects, and SF's own Connie Chan. "Chan was a leading critic of the city’s 2022 decision to permanently ban cars on a key stretch of Golden Gate Park’s John F. Kennedy Drive." 🎁link:

The carrot approach to speed cameras: Speed-detecting traffic signals that reward drivers for obeying the speed limit. If a driver is speeding towards the light, it will turn red. If the driver is approaching at a safe speed, it will turn green. These signals reduce speeding and injury crashes.

khon2.comCities see benefits from speed-detecting traffic signals“The data is telling us that we’re seeing major, major reductions in both speeding drivers and in injury crashes,” Turner said.

NOAA launches the weather balloons, floats the ocean buoys, flies the satellites, and staffs the forecasters that tell us when storms are coming. That data supports about two-thirds of the economy, roughly $1.3 trillion a year, and it paid us back $73 for every dollar we spent on it.

This is what the billionaire press and many politicians were campaigning so hard to destroy. Their freedom to drive took precedence over our children's freedom to thrive. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

14 hours later and my mentions are still full of angry treatises about badly behaved cyclists. Bike lanes are not a reward for good cyclist behavior! They are infrastructure proven to make cities safer for ALL ROAD USERS. Whatever way cyclists have wronged you is irrelevant to the discussion!

Katie Mack@astrokatie.com

Every conversation about bike lanes is like: "Car crashes kill a huge number of people every day, including pedestrians, cyclists, & car occupants. Good bike infrastructure has been shown to make everyone safer (& doesn't increase congestion)." "But sometimes cyclists break rules & hit people!"

A little Friday extra ... something to tell your pals over a pint. According to the latest CFSv2 model run, this El Nino has just shy of a 95% chance of breaking 4.0°C above the 1991-2020 baseline in November.

THREAD. Contrary to what you are being told, 40 years of polling have established that shifting money away from police/prisons toward social services is one of the most popular public policies among *all* political demographics. But it's not just that, it goes way deeper.

According to anti-cyclist replies, here's evidence that cars and bikes are equally dangerous: 🚗: They kill ~40000 people in the US annually 🚲: I saw a cyclist run a red light 30 years ago

The WNBA, just like the rest of the leagues. “Fine if you stick to the games” is true about most of the leagues… it’s the rest of it that make them horrible (CTE, Being anti-pride, etc).

The W is fine if you stick to the games which are great…all the other bs is toxic and that’s from folks outside the W…Cunningham excluded because she’s grifting off her MAGA fame now since she would barely make any other team…🤔

Riding bikes is 10X more important than electric cars for reaching net-zero cities. And that’s just the climate emissions. Doesn’t include the massive public & personal cost difference, the air & noise pollution difference, the massive space difference, etc, etc…Via @theconversation.bsky.social

Asked my 30 year old son “how high do gas prices have to go before the people say “that’s too much.” He says they won’t. Everyone drives, they have too. As I recall my father getting mad when gas went over 50¢/gallon, and taking the bus to work.
