this is good advice. this includes things like quote dunking and sharing screenshots. we don't need to engage with any of these jackasses at all, and angrily boosting them helps literally no one
I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.
Well this is eleventy-million kinds of Fucked Up. @latimes.com (who once contracted with me as a freelance reviewer and whom I struggled to get paid by) asserts that *merely reading its website* constitutes a permanent waiver of your right to sue it under *any circumstances*.
It hasn’t even been a year since a climate disaster killed holidaymakers at an unprepared campground where the council ignored warnings, and the ghouls at Reality Check Radio have seen fit to deliver this flyer in the hometown of one of the people who was killed.
I really struggle to find words for how much I despise an organisation that exists to spread lies about well-understood, established truths like climate change and the efficacy of vaccination. RCR and those that promote it have blood on their hands.

If (when?) Labour loses this election, and the regime ushers in another 3 years of cruel, corrupt, bigoted tyranny, we will know exactly who to blame: Chris Hipkins. This mediocrity was so afraid of winning and having to do things, he's now sabotaging his own campaign.
my modest proposal is: what if as a country we just stopped listening to the people who are always wrong and did things that need doing www.emilywrites.co.nz/some-banter-...

There are all kinds of problems with politics and politicians but a non-trivial number of them derive directly the unhinged way the media treat the subject (and the people)
You know I'm a massive Luxo hater, but do you know who seemed the most out of touch in the debate? The political journalists discussing it afterwards like it's an actual sports breakdown, like wtf fire them all.
Curia/TPU run the most rock-solid parliamentary makeup polling op in NZ because it gives them impeccable cover for all the actually malfeasant shit they do
Today is the least not deranged Bluesky people have been about revealing the dark truth that Opportunity might work with either side of politics, given their explicitly stated purpose is to be able to “work with both sides“
- on current polling, Opportunity is the left’s sole path to power
- maybe attack the people who are currently doing a terrible job of government rather than an all-but-inevitable coalition partner?
- unless you are actively canvassing for the left your Opportunity exposès are pissing in the wind
hello friends

what needs to be added to this is the magnitude of the falsehood. i.e Hipkins was "mostly false" by a dollar for the price of an NZ block of butter in Australia. Luxon was "mostly false" about Labour having an $18 billion fiscal hole, which is 18 billion (10 orders of magnitude) times worse
Newsroom has fact-checked many of the claims made last night by Christopher Luxon and Chris Hipkins in the NZ Herald leaders debate, finding both made false and misleading statements:
newsroom.co.nz/2026/10/15/f...
hipkins: lies about the price of butter ($1)
luxon: lies about Labour's budget ($18 billion)
political journalists (intellectuals): "you see? both are liars"
never mind that Hipkins' falsehood was an error, a failure to account for a currency difference (despite $1 AUD to an Australian being practically equivalent as $1 NZD to an NZer) and Luxon's is a whopper of a lie, something he simply must know to be untrue, and the press equivocates them as "false"
my position is that I want leftists to vote Green or TPM but I want rightwingers to vote TOP over any of the other options because they're sure as hell not going further left than that but it's still more left than NZFAct.
there's a higher-than-usual level of deranged discourse about Opportunity on this left-ish website so I'm just going to leave this here again

So for the people who do seemingly genuinely believe that Claude or whatever is a real conscious being
what is their actual response to the fairly reasonable charge of "so you enslaved an intelligent living thing and you don't have any problems with that?"
Anthropic wrote that the new policy update “is meant to apply only in extreme cases, where users repeatedly act cruelly toward our models, with no discernible purpose. It does not apply to common versions of user frustration, pushback, dark creative themes, or model testing and research.”

It’s extremely demoralizing to have known how much all these guys sucked for literally decades now and still watch them get richer and richer and more and more powerful. I don’t know how to describe what that’s done to my view of whether there’s anything about this country worth saving.
