This is interesting and beautifully clear.

With intermittent speech, a person can speak some but not all of the time. Maybe they’re out of energy, overloaded, or sick. Certain environments can be harder to speak in. For whatever reason, they can sometimes speak, but not always." @yesthattoo.bsky.social: www.assistiveware.com/blog/intermi...

Great piece by Tom Harris on cloud feedback The world's cloud cover is reducing, which makes the planet hotter This may be why Miocene Climatic Optimum temperatures were 7 - 8C up on pre-industrial for CO2 levels of just 400 - 600ppm Very, very, scary substack.com/home/post/p-...

Unthinkable that Labour has doubled down on fossil fuels by approving Jackdaw – a total betrayal of future generations & contradiction of govts own climate goals. The science is clear: the only way to secure a prosperous future in the face of climate breakdown is to keep fossil fuels in the ground.

Let's talk a little more about Margaret Hamilton because she deserves it In 1961, Margaret Hamilton was tackling massive systems, having previously wrangled room-sized computers that blared like a foghorn whenever they crashed.

A beautiful, informative and clear video.

New video: "You Have One #Brain, Not Three." It dismantles the myth that you have a "lizard brain" for instincts, wrapped in a "limbic system" for emotions, topped by a "neocortex" for rationality. A cinematic lecture from filmmaker Van Yang. www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZrv... #neuroscience

I won't pretend this isn't a very difficult moment, but so proud of Greens who continue to stand up for trans rights in councils across the UK. This time it was our turn in Oxford! Amazing work by @maxmorris.bsky.social who drafted and proposed the motion www.thisisoxfordshire.co.uk/news/2661155...

Well...eels can live out of water for a time. And if they're in a damp environment, they can live for quite a while. Pliny the Elder (who loved to be wrong) wrote that eels can live out of water for 5-6 days if there's a NE wind (less, though, if the wind is from the south)! 2/3

There aren't many days when you can kayak off Start Point, renowned for one of Britain's most dangerous tidal races. But yesterday the stars aligned, so I bunked off work. Delighted to see Rupert Kirkwood (the Lone Kayaker) out there. He took this picture of me +1. Before you ask: yes, it's real. 🧵

Brilliant episode, so clearly explained.

Electricity is 23% of global final energy but delivers 37% of useful energy and powers 46% of the global economy. We don't need to replace every fossil joule. We need to replace the services. A much smaller task. Great to see the @iea.org’s new Electrification report finally measure this.

It's very easy to wear a suit and tie in any major city, even if the aesthetic has mostly disappeared from daily life, because there are people outside wearing pink tutus with Army boots. As usual, your liberation is connected to other people's liberation.

Absolutely. Rotating food stocks and especially water is an onerous task (lived experience here). Getting the right mix of food you’d be able to stomach in a crisis, and food you’d could face when you’re rotating is hard too. Can’t govt experts help us?

The government must know full well that many people have neither the space nor the money to store extra food in their homes. It is individuating responsibility for a collective problem. As usual, it is the poorest and most excluded who will suffer from it. 🧵 www.theguardian.com/environment/...

One of the biggest lies politicians sell us is that work is the way out of poverty. Most people receiving benefits are IN WORK. We will never end this “cost of living crisis” until employers are made to pay people liveable wages rather than wages that are subsidised by taxpayers.

Dear government, don’t send startling, high-pitched alerts about wildfires to ordinary people's phones. Send them to the CEOs of fossil fuel companies and make them impossible to switch off until they stop the destructive plunder that's contributing to climate change.
