A new survey of 1,000 American adults found that the strongest supporters of transgender sports bans are not the people who admire women most: they are the people who hold the most hostile views about women. www.helenwebberley.com/news/transge...

missed opportunity, heels!

College Gameday announced it'll go to Minnesota-Indiana next Saturday. I heard through the grapevine the Gameday production crew was actively sourcing places in Chapel Hill to host a Halloween party... Clearly the UNC football loss last night scrapped plans for the show to be at Carolina.

Trump: "Why wouldn't you listen to a mother that says that?" Monica Alba: "She stayed with a stepfather who was charged with raping his stepdaughter in 1978, sir." Trump: "You just keep talking." Alba: "I am answering you, sir." Trump: "I don't know anything about stepfathers."

Local Chapel Hill landlord concerned that the Town Council has allowed production of market-based housing that is increasing competition and making it harder for landlords to fill vacancies and, presumably, raise rents.

While we're talking about voting, be sure to check out @ncrabbithole.com's latest article about a North Carolina resident who voted abesentee--from Antarctica! With an appearance by @gercohen.bsky.social. www.ncrabbithole.com/p/one-person...

ncrabbithole.comOne person in Antarctica voted in North Carolina's election. We found him.How did a former truck driver from the Asheville area end up on the bottom of the world? And how hard is it to cast a ballot from a remote, frozen outpost that's 9,000 miles away?

Wednesday was another good #earlyvoting day in Orange County (NC), with the number of votes still well above 2022, although not quite as much of an increase as earlier days. Second week of early voting begins today!

NC counties sorted by most newly registered voters since 2022. Fast growing counties looking quite red! But the shift in early voting is blue DESPITE all those new red registrants. It's like NY NJ etc Pubs moved here, saw how nuts NC Pubs are, and did a Grandpa Simpson turnabout.

Better day for Republican turnout but still being outpaced by Dems and Unaffiliated. Trump was in Greenville, NC yesterday. Guess his voters went to the rally instead of the polls - Republicans votes in Pitt down 9% compared to same day in 2022 🤡 Dem votes up 50% there ✊

Hypothetical: if we launched a Scholars & Creators Program with influencer-program vibes (think curated book mailings, opportunities to connect with authors, early access to campaigns, etc) would you want in? 👀

This thread is a pretty sobering look into how the building code sausage gets made in the US. We really need the public sector to impose some actual rigor and cost benefit analysis on this process.

Wow, this may be the most disgraceful political attack I’ve ever seen.

🚨 VILE: Vivek Ramaswamy’s new attack ad against Amy Acton features her estranged mother, who stayed married to the man who sexually abused her daughter at age 12, even after his arrest. Now even conservatives are calling the ad disgusting. The horrifying story behind Vivek’s attack:

Another blowout #earlyvoting day in Orange County (NC) Turnout today is 154% of 2022 turnout on the first Monday of early voting, and the overall total is 163% of 2022 turnout through the first five days of early voting. Each early voting site well above 2022!

Aaron Boone is returning as Yankees manager next season, a source confirmed to ESPN. @pcaldera was on the news.

Oddly, since June i’ve been very much opposed to paying taxes for public schools. I’m old, why should I pay to educate other people’s children?

“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century.

Another tremendous day of #earlyvoting in Orange County (NC). Today had 65% more votes than the first Saturday of voting in 2022, with three sites nearly doubling their totals from then. Overall there's nearly a 63% increase in early voting so far.

Spent the morning canvassing in the cold and rain for Ian Baltutis, NC house candidate, and the entire @ncdp.org ticket in Alamance County. Get out and vote! pho

Another incredible day of #earlyvoting in Orange County NC. 4,168 ballots cast on day 2, vs 2,681 on day 2 in 2022. Chapel Hill Library with more than double the number of votes in 2022, and close to the 2024 (prez election) total. All sites have significant increases

My deep thought on the proposed Carrboro-Chapel Hill police merger is that running a town is expensive, I’m not sure why two communities with very similar priorities have separate town governments. Lots of duplicative services creating significant inefficiencies.

The only poll that counts. This record-breaking Day 1 turnout by NC Dems in the face of lackluster voting by gopers augers a blow-out of unprecedented size IF WE KEEP THIS UP THROUGH ELECTION DAY. Republicans are ashamed to show their faces at the polls this year, while Dems are ashamed *not to*.

EQV Analytics@eqvanalytics.bsky.social

In North Carolina's first day of Early Voting yesterday, Dems & unaffiliated voters showed up and cast nearly twice as many ballots as they did in the first day of EV in 2022. In contrast, Republicans stayed home, and cast *fewer* ballots than in 2022. Sure looks like an angry blue wave a'comin'.
