For the 1st time in US history SCOTUS has more rulings on its shadow docket -- unsigned and with no opinions -- than it has cases where it has heard oral arguments and issued signed rulings. IOW they are hiding their deliberations while stealing our democracy. www.propublica.org/article/supr...

propublica.orgA Troubling Milestone: Most Supreme Court Rulings Are Secretive Votes With Little JustificationProPublica conducted a new analysis that shows the court is deciding more consequential rulings than ever before in largely unsigned orders with little to no explanation.

Musk’s wealth is a threat to democracy—not just in the U.S. but everywhere. He’s probably the greatest threat to the free world today.

I'm not sure how much more blatant it can get that these guys are looting the federal government and then pointing over there and saying "look what THOSE BLACK PEOPLE ARE GETTING AWAY WITH!!!" bsky.app/profile/atru...

In the presidential immunity case, the court considered a hypothetical of a president ordering Navy Seals to assassinate an American political rival. Trump's lawyer argued unambiguously yes, since it'd be an "official act." The Roberts Court ruled in his favor, 6-3. Why wouldn't Trump believe this?

Trump: "I could've done very bad things to Hillary Clinton. I could've done very very bad things to Joe Biden. I could've done very bad things to Barack Hussein Obama ... I can do whatever I want, if I want."

As someone who just finished reading Gil Durán’s excellent work, The Nerd Reich, this strikes me as an evergreen summation of most every current, expanding attack upon modern western civilization by the maniacs in charge. or as, I think, Oliver Willis might say: The Plan™️

Everyone involved with this, except a dozen or so already very wealthy people, will lose.

Cuts to the bone: "For some reason we pretend that declaring that schools could be 'separate but equal' by race was absurd, but that 'separate but equal' by income and social capital is reasonable. It is not true."

Hamilton Nolan@hamiltonnolan.bsky.social

Allowing the most powerful segment of society to opt out of public services inevitably makes public services worse. This is why the existence of private schools inevitably makes public schools worse. A simple fact that seems hard for many to admit. www.hamiltonnolan.com/p/private-sc...

The "largest theft of labor in human history" bit a few posts up is getting a lot of traction but let's not discount the "LLMs are a product that destroys its supply chain" part.

HHS decided to boost chemtrails and 5G in the same day, which tells me two things: (1) they’re afraid of losing their base, and (2) MAHA is about to swing harder into conspiracies than it has by a mile in the next month or two

AI doom or not, something has shifted with AI recently. The guardrails that kept AI sitting in a chatbox are gone, the models are better, there's more compute. AI agents are everywhere. They are annoying as hell. IMO the situation is going to get much worse www.404media.co/theres-a-100...

Nice to have a citation for the stuff we all sort of assume to be true but question if it's just our own biases making it look that way

I do think “every rich person went insane during covid because it was the first time they’ve been inconvenienced in decades” felt a little reductive at first but damn if isn’t more and more compelling as the years drag on

the degree to which ruling republicans are comfortable looking into the camera and saying out loud how much they view everyone else primarily as vectors for wealth extraction should be shocking to everyone. vampire capitalism joins white supremacy and misogyny as republicans' bedrock principles.

They have whiplash. Is A.I. the future or is it the end of jobs? It can't be both (they took 1900 hours of AP classes so they know they can figure that out for themselves). Where are all the professors and why are they all in a seminar about A.I. instead of inspiring them or telling them what to do?

I cannot really explain to someone who hasn't been steeped in this stuff for awhile how sudden and total the "go to college and get a good job" edict has collapsed. It's a vaccuum. And we know how nature feels about those. All we are throwing in there at the moment is A.I.

It's mostly not about the technology, itself. They are angry about A.I. because they are anxious about how to be successful. No one in charge will tell them the new path to upward mobility. No seems to want to even figure one out. All anyone will talk to them about is A.I.

Genuinely abundant, cheap, accessible energy has vastly more liberatory potential than AI, for vastly more people -- especially more poor people. Which, I guess, is your answer.

Have you seen any reporting on how solar power generation in the USA is 5 times higher than it was in 2020 in mainstream outlets? If not, why do you think this is not being widely covered the same way other large technological changes are?
