British Voter@britishvoter.bsky.social

I'm a White British non-religious man from Richmond Park, in my twenties. My top issue is transport and infrastructure. In 2024 I voted Lib Dem. Today I still would.

there’s a certain kind of trans person trying to get a cushy dc job in a post 2026 midterm environment by throwing their siblings’ civil rights and healthcare under the bus do not fall for it and give the turncoats all the shit in the world as it happens

There are some people who claim "oh, Dems in blue states will never shift towards enacting anti-trans policy" Meanwhile Colorado is literally enacting a medical detransition protocol for trans youth on medicaid.

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

Rather than cover the cost of gender affirming care for trans youth under medicaid, Colorado is voluntarily enacting the republican "taper and detransition" policy for youth on medicaid and dropping coverage. WTF.

His takeaway is so weird. Gavin Newsom was progressive on trans issues because it was politically advantageous as Mayor of San Francisco. He's retreating because it's politically disadvantageous now. The story is that Newsom is untrustworthy not that he's some political genius.

GC adjacent people who concede adults should be allowed to transition believe we should be a permanently subordinate class of sex workers like we have been for two thousand years

I intend to stand on this principle, that trans people are humans entitled to full equality, that we did nothing wrong, and that the rollback of our rights was unjustified and unjustifiable, come hell or high water. It could be years. It could be decades. I'm not budging.

Small note: Josh Turek's wording in this ad is the same language the GOP uses to include puberty blockers & hormones. This ad isn't just him agreeing with Marjorie Taylor Greene and Dan Crenshaw's bills to ban Medicare for youth trans health, it's him saying the bills didn't go far enough.

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

Turek has to lose

This policy would kill thousands or tens of thousands of low income trans people, it is to the right of much of the Republican Party. Please do not vote for him

This post in particular is really telling. It's saying - don't expect Democrats to simply right the wrongs. What Republicans take away in 4 years you must expect to spend 20 years to restore, fighting Democrats the whole way.

Actually, positive change is slow, difficult and incremental by nature. Destroying is fast, building is slow. It is easy to bring misery to people - any idiot can do it, as Trump shows - but very hard to improve their conditions. Building a better society is slow, careful, patient work.

I consider myself very fortunate because I disguised my humanities dissertation as a social science dissertation, and they gave me a doctorate for it

Humanities dissertations have fallen by 49 percent since 2015, compared with a drop of 4.5 percent in the social sciences, according to a new analysis of nearly 445,000 dissertations in these two fields over 65 years. Explore the data: https://chroni.cl/4yxUZ4S

According to a YouGov/UMass Lowell poll released today, 58% of people would support a law banning online or app-based sports gambling and prediction markets (Kalshi/Polymarket was a listed example).

I switched registration- I’ve been a registered dem since I was 18, but I can’t countenance a party fearmongering against me and my sisters to win votes. All of you fuck off.

The DCCC funding this means that the Democratic party itself, not individual politicians, is endorsing anti-trans policies as an electoral talking point

BREAKING: SCOTUS rejects Trump admin's request to allow it to end gender-affirming medical care in prisons — a significant, if tentative, rejection of one of the admin's most extreme anti-trans arguments. Only Thomas and Alito noted they would have granted the stay. More to come: www.lawdork.com

Of course I want an expanded welfare state, but if we’re telling ourselves that that’s the one-shot kill to Transatlantic fascism and pretending it isn’t primarily a question of civic morality we’re just setting ourselves up to do this all over again in five or ten years’ time
