Great chance to post my all-time favorite headline

Nick Pettigrew@nick-pettigrew.bsky.social

I'm convinced AI is our generation's radium - a discovery with genuinely useful applications in specific, controlled circumstances that we stupidly put in everything from kid's toys to toothpaste until we realised the harm far too late where future generations will ask if we were out of our minds.

Using LLM-based products like chatGPT doesn't make you "understand AI" any more than smoking crack improves your knowledge of pharmacology. The technology is inherently misleading and self-propagandizing, it's a pump for exploiting user bias.

A memorial for Gloria Steinem In 1963, Gloria Steinem put on a fake name, a fake age, a satin corset, and took a job as a Playboy Bunny. Then she took the ears off, went home, and spent the next sixty years telling the world what it means to work in the sex industry.

Okay, after all the new cycles about GTA6 I've been trying to avoid commenting on, I've watched the latest trailers and I kinda feel I have to say something, so I've been collecting some thoughts while out walking about the state of gaming generally. This might be a long thread so bare with me.

Now you can opt out of having your posts shown to non-followers in the Discover feed. We know not everyone wants to go viral. Sometimes you're just posting for your followers. This is one of a few updates we're working on to give you more control over your experience and help you find your people.

Modded Minecraft, specifically with Cobblemon and with most hostile mob spawns disabled. I get to spend a mostly peaceful year playing with Pokemon, death isn't permanent, and one of the mods adds a hammock that skips the daytime so if I get bored I can skip the rest of the year by sleeping it away.

Bluesky never beating the allegations. I make a math joke (we need to add three more states so that we'll truly be indivisible) and someone quote reskeets it just saying "No" because they don't like one of the states I suggested.

I have, with my own eyes, watched my tax dollars in the form of missiles as they hit buildings inhabited by civilians. I'd much prefer subsidizing a grocery story I don't use.

Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.

Deeply saddened to learn of the loss of my dear friend Satan, the Prince of Lies. Though we often disagreed about matters such as the appropriate role of torture in the afterlife, I will most remember how his quick wit and affable nature made our weekly golf outings a ritual. He will be missed.

let's be clear, let's be very clear, let's be incredibly clear about something: Marcia Lucas is why you love Star Wars. She's why Star Wars worked. She's why it has heart. She's responsible for the in-media-res beginning, she's responsible for basically everything charming and unique about >

San Francisco Chronicle@sfchronicle.com

Oscar winner and San Francisco resident Marcia Lucas — the former wife of George Lucas who edited the original “Star Wars,” “American Graffiti” and “Taxi Driver” —  has died.

@rebell.bsky.social [Feedback] Page: Deck Builder Browser: Chrome / Desktop Removing cards from the bottom of a mana value section in the mana curve view results in the "remove card" button going under the subsequent mana value's header --- Sent from Commander Template beta feedback

In case it's helpful, it's Chrome Version 146.0.7680.164 on Ubuntu, obviously in Dark Mode, where this happened. Also, I followed a prompt to swap to Mana Value view to refine the deck, and it was not very intuitive to figure out how to swap back to Template view afterwards.

its just bizarre to me to say that bluesky is a siloed off bubble detached from real debate when everyone over here hates the president with a 30% approval and everyone over there thinks things are going so well that we have entered a 1000 year conservative reign

It’s weird that we now have to be worried that we might hurt will stancils feelings and will this be banned Has he done anything laudable besides driving a car around and going “fuck ice” for a few weeks? Because that’s just sad yall need to have better standards for your heroes

If you get traumatized while voluntarily attending a leisure event run by Nazis a possible downside is a lack of sympathy.

Clara Jeffery@clarajeffery.bsky.social

People here are being really shitty, including at fellow journalists who've been traumatized, and you will regret those posts. Or should. Also this does not help your political cause, whatever that might be.

Y'all need to get the fuck off Substack.

kottke.org@kottke.org

Hey, look at Substack promoting Andrew Tate as the #1 new bestseller. The company's amoral leadership & backers will platform anyone, even ludicrously toxic rapists & human traffickers.

As I’ve said before, the problem with Mastadon is that everyone on it has at least considered switching to Linux. And while I have many dear friends who have done this, the idea of restricting my social circle to such people is pure existential horror.

Faine Greenwood@faineg.com

Yeah because I tried Mastodon in good faith and it was the social media experience of eating bran flakes while being glowered at by an angry German
