This is the perfect campaign for Bluesky since we were all of the right age 22 years ago 🙃

Since 2004, this community has helped make Firefox and the open internet possible. Our “Come Back to Firefox” campaign reunites a few early internet icons to remind people what made the internet special, and why it’s worth protecting.

ooh gonna try this out

If you have an iPhone w/ the current OS, go into Settings, scroll to the bottom to click on Apps, scroll down to M & go into the Messages app, and flick this switch “screen unknown senders”. This dumps 99% political text messages into a folder you can separately check.

One byte secret keys, niiiiiiice

Russ Cox@swtch.com

The details are now public, as of two hours ago. bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi... The secret P-384 keys for these intermediate CAs are all zeros except the last 8 bits. All not-updated software can be MITM'ed now. IOT boxes that can't or don't update are now trivially MITM'able forever.

It is, ultimately, good for baseball to have heroes and villains. To have teams like the Yankees, Astros, and Dodgers that people love to hate. But man is it nice to just be able to watch an ALCS between two perfectly pleasant teams who will then play a perfectly pleasant team in the World Series.

Gonna press the button for him even harder now!

At the Plano kickoff rally for his final tour, James Talarico just shouted out the "Cowboys, Astros and Spurs" as examples of flagship Texas sports teams. Even in DFW, no one has time for the South Oklahoma Rangers

1. this is good! 2. Hopefully trans issues will follow the trajectory of gay marriage, where it was unpopular right up until it wasn’t 3. I do wonder if there’s a bit of a halo effect since Trump/Republicans are so unpopular right now 4. But, see #1!

it makes me sad because this is a big, beautiful country with so many incredible things to see and I want more people to get to experience that

"The numbers suggest that the collapse of the United States’ tourism industry is accelerating, thanks to Trump, MAGA, the GOP’s extreme xenophobia, and their belief that there’s no problem you can’t brutalize your way out of." — @brynntannehill.bsky.social

This is why I’ve come around to “every billionaire is a policy failure” - no one person should have this much power! (and, you know, unfettered campaign spending is also bad)

Y’all, I hate to rain on the dead bot parade, but the Yandex data center destruction doesn’t seem to have significantly impacted social media bots. I made temporal graphs of X posts about AfD around the time of the attack and there’s no sign of a sudden dip or residual impact on that conversation.

I think it’s important for anyone who (completely understandably) checked out on AI the second the crypto/nft/metaverse/snake oil chuds started pushing it to realize that, in at least the domain of software development, we are very much living in a scenario where the snake oil actually works

Joshua Rivera@jmrivera.bsky.social

personally think if the line is going to be “no gen ai in anything” then the you might have to consider divesting from AAA games entirely because this is just what the industry is now, whether they admit it so publicly or not

What I do think is interesting about Paxton, in particular, is that he's very Trump-like. Absolutely the sort of candidate that the GOP thought "Well, the boss is Teflon so obviously they'll vote for Paxton" and it just once again shows that Donny's armor doesn't transfer to literally anyone else

this is amazing

OOPS GOP ad buyer mixes up Portlands, spends money meant to help Maine Sen. Susan Collins in Oregon The PAC boosting Collins is "absolutely furious" at the "ridiculous error" made by the buyer, which takes blame and has refunded the money. www.nbcnews.com/politics/202...

“I have come to bluesky to post about how everyone should go back to Twitter and then when I get yelled at I go, see, it’s so unfriendly here” is exceedingly tiresome at this point

if Elon is spending millions of dollars of his own money to push this message with paid media, what do you think he does to the black box algorithm on his platform that chooses which posts you see and which of your posts are shown to others?

Elon Musk’s PAC is running anti-lgbtq+ midterm ads on X. Not surprising but incredibly unsubtle

Aww yeah

Companies are racing to develop a new kind of solar panel that produces more energy. It would reduce the amount of land needed to generate power and could help U.S. producers, which has fallen far behind China in solar manufacturing. Ivan Penn reports: www.nytimes.com/2026/10/05/b...

I was going to respond with a measured take about how parenting is a massive amount of work, and if AI can help reduce that load by organizing stuff or whatever, that seems OK! Then I saw the post in question, which is about training an AI model to read to your kid so you don’t have to, and whaaaat

Marc Normandin@marcnormandin.bsky.social

Every time I see one of those posts where a parent has decided to offload anything it can about being a parent to AI it just makes me sad for that kid. why do you have kids if you aren't going to try to form actual relationships with them, to spend time with them, to parent them?
