I am entirely serious when I say that this should be seen as a moderate position. It specifically and surgically dismantles institutions that did not exist pre-9/11 and assigns their functions much as they were assigned pre-9/11.

Rep. Delia C. Ramirez has introduced a bill that would abolish not just ICE, but the DHS altogether, repealing the 2002 law establishing the agency and replacing it with one focused on protecting civil and human rights.

So what's happening with the warehouses now? Well, ICE is now trying to offload most of them "at a steep discount." In other words, ICE effectively set millions of dollars on fire for a complete boondoggle. Reporting courtesy @projectsaltbox.com. www.projectsaltbox.com/p/ice-puts-s...

In addition to the utter disgust and fury I've been feeling towards the sorry excuses for men who raped that young woman at Cornell, she has me thinking of every woman in my life who has trusted me enough to share the story of her own rape. They all share something in common:

I don’t know where I’m going with this, other than to remind myself it’s too easy to point at despicable men and say, “not me.” I’ve now lived inside of fifty years of rape culture and I didn’t even post about this at first because I didn’t think my voice mattered. So, what have I done to change it?

I hope this young woman will receive better justice than my friends have. But I’ve got to act like a better friend to them, too.

My concept of sexual consent was shaped by the harrowing stories of my first two girlfriends. By the Antioch College SOPP, requiring enthusiastic, ongoing verbal consent. There were times I refused to even have sex with my former wife because she was drunk. So of course I’d do something. Wouldn’t I?

Then I think of friends growing up. Or the nerdy fraternity I was in for 2 years in college. They certainly said and did things that weren't respectful. Statistically, one of them might have even SA'd a woman. I can’t imagine I’ve never been in the same room with a man who has. Did I speak up then?

I can’t understand trying to defend any part of what these men did, or placing ANY blame on the woman. In a just world, she should be able to attend a party naked if she wants to, without fear. Let alone have a “friend” pull a bait & switch, incapacitate her, and call a train of his weasel buddies.

But I can’t stop thinking about the 50 others who did nothing to stop it, either. Who treated that SEVEN HOUR assault like being offered a cigarette they could simply turn down, without notifying anyone, without even saying anything. I immediately think “I’d say something. I’d do something.”

Actually, they have a lot of things in common, not the least of which are complex PTSD, a righteous anger our society has done everything in its power to stifle, and a life path altered by the actions of “men” who were allowed to go on with theirs like nothing happened.

Not a single one of their rapists faced anything approaching justice, and most got help from, and were embraced by, the communities or families(!) they were a part of. It makes me nauseated just trying to wrap my mind around how that feels. Every day. For the rest of your life.

Please don't give the DA reopening the Cornell case any cookies. District Attorney Matthew Van Houten all but called Jane Doe a liar today. He said that in Doe's initial statement, she described "her participation in drug use and sexual conduct as voluntary, conscious, and consensual.” CONSENSUAL

To the people complaining these sex abuse cases have created a world where men now have to think 10 times before they touch a woman. Yes, that's the point. It's called consent. Welcome to human decency.

Please know that this is one of my few legitimate areas of actual, high-level professional expertise: Kicking the healthiest people off of a health insurance program will bankrupt it. Not 'could;' not 'might,' not 'probably," but absolutely will, with mathematical certainty.

Never forget that for many of these tech billionaire creeps, "disrupt" has always just meant "break the fucking law."

Trump is not just the worst president, but the worst US citizen of my entire lifetime. A world historical failure of humanity and morality. He and his wicked entourage have burdened us with the task of repairing his damage and eradicating his evil legacy for the rest of our lives.

most people want to think of what they do as being a net positive for society, so when you've been working in a field that is widely acknowledged as such it can be very difficult to adapt when that vibe shifts... the Detroit executive class in the 70s-80s are a canonical example of this
