I'm 50. The progress since 1976 (at least in some parts of the world) on gender equality and LGBTQ rights, although much still is lacking, is actually quite astounding.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

🧵Can't get numb to this: in the Iran War, we have a total vacuum of leadership in the Pentagon and State Dept amid a strategic disaster of America's own making. Two pieces show how: first, Hegseth blaming Trump's bad info on near-empty missile stockpiles on a deputy. wapo.st/4hQVTF0 1/

These people are *so fucking stupid* I cannot believe all the "misreading the Melian dialogue" stuff really actually was their whole worldview, there genuinely wasn't more to it than that. Even just actually picking up the moral of that text would have been sufficient to avoid this! Gah!

I don’t get why no one bothers to point out that micromanaging renovations of the reflecting pool aren’t even remotely the job of the president. Everyone seems to be cool that this is is primary policy focus.

nobody in British politics seems to want to say it but the single biggest driver of their inability to keep a prime minister for any length of time is that Brexit was stupid and ruinous and made everyone’s lives worse

I tried making this point in March. Apart from @professormusgrave.bsky.social, I don't know if anyone cared. Damn, so effing stupid!

There is absolutely no reason for prediction markets to exist. None.

Source after source told 60 Minutes they fear today’s insider trading scandal about military secrets is tomorrow’s national security scandal. If market-watchers can spot irregular trades, surely enemies can, too. And they’ll make their war plans accordingly. cbsn.ws/4uSxuCf

Academia relies on good faith. It cannot be done otherwise. This is precisely why plagiarists, people who fake data, people who deliberately ignore counter-evidence, and fascists need to be driven out. Full cordon sanitaire against this crap.

For the record: The Washington Post is run by partisan hacks who think we won't remember that they took the *exact* opposite stance when it was Republicans pushing their own gerrymandering grab in Texas last year -- *without* putting it up for a vote.

Sorry to be overly sincere for a second, but here's why we decided to persevere through all of the bullshit and take over InfoWars. There's just gotta be a line somewhere. Thank you @pablo.show for letting me talk so openly about this.

I'm happy to announce something I have been so, so eager to share for a long time: "Leo Woodall has been cast as Halvard in ‘THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE HUNT FOR GOLLUM’". It will be a tall order for Leo, but I believe he might just have it in him to bring the complexity of Halvard to the big screen.

The earliest one listed is "Pius XII and the Holocaust." Mind you, for a thousand years, Popes were actual political rulers, and for much of that time they were involved in the selection or deposing of some of the most powerful crowned heads of Europe. Then for sixty years...

I feel like someone with far more moral authority than me needs to say this, over and over: Trump entrusted the fate of the country, the world economy, and thousands of service members, to his wildly conflicted son-in-law and developer buddy, who reportedly didn't know fuckall that they were hearing

this is truly an abomination. I guess they were not satisfied with how thoroughly they have been betraying the lessons of the Holocaust.

This Trump tweet is a work of art and needs to be kept for posterity. It turns out that the US has destroyed 100% of Iran’s military capability. Yet, to combat a military with no capability he is left pleading with allies he has regularly insulted to save him in the Gulf.

The Trump WH is starting to reap what it has sown in terms of screwing over counterparties: -Iran can't trust a negotiated settlement so why reach one? -Ds in Congress can't trust Trump to follow the law so why bargain w/him? -Universities see past deals leading to future shakedowns so why make one?

I mean, it is almost as if a well-trained and professional diplomacy is actually, potentially....quite useful?

🧵Feels like shouting into the void, but it is essential to note that the Trump/Rubio gutting of the State Department and blowtorching of US diplomatic capacity and credibility is an accelerant to this spiraling war and will seriously undercut US/allied efforts to pick up the pieces after. 1/
