Goddamn I love living in Minnesota and I love hanging out with Minnesotans and the way they talk is just so goddamn wonderful. It’s like music to me. I can’t think of anywhere else I’d rather live. Also, don’t check back in January. Also, damn this place is great.

This thread is a public service. 🙏

Crop art at the Minnesota State Fair! It is what it says it is - art made from various parts of crops, primarily seeds, lentils, and grains, occasionally leaves or flowers. For any non-Minnesotans viewing this, I'll start with mostly less political pieces. It's harder than you might think.

I live within walking distance of the Minnesota State Fair. I can usually tell how busy it’s going to be based on the on-street parking situation in my neighborhood. This year it’s extra claustrophobic. Relatedly, I am obsessed with tracking attendance numbers. They are SUPER EXCITING so far …

When we moved to Minnesota, we met our new neighbors and they asked, “Are you going to the Fair? You excited?” I said I didn’t know if we were going and asked if the Fair was going on now or something. This conversation was taking place on March 6th.

"My piece was inspired by Picasso's Guernica...The patterns near Renee Good and Alex Pretti’s mouths are actually their last words in Morse code: ‘I’m not mad at you,’ and ‘Are you okay?’” -Jennifer Nelson (quoted in the linked booklet, alongside other extraordinary pieces)

MNDOT digital sign on 35W northbound heading into downtown Mpls reads something like “Going to the cottage? Slow down in work zones.” Did they hire someone from Michigan to rage bait us? WTH?

You know what we don't talk enough about? Queen & Annie Lennox/David Bowie rehearsing 'Under Pressure' in 1992. So much going on! Everyone's clothes, Bowie with a lit cig throughout, where Annie PROPER GOES FOR IT, George Michael singing along in the background. The amazing vocals. Yes, please!

Mike Monteiro on how to deal with your suddenly grown-up kids. “When your kid leaves it is the happiest day of your life and also the saddest day of your life. And a lot of other feelings in between.” In the midst of this right now; it’s been a lot. [buttondown.com]

Feeling overwhelmed with all of this. LISTEN. Another Louisiana resident (Marshawn is the only name we have) testifies against the state’s racial gerrymander, speaking truth to power up and down the hearing room and predicts how this story will end. Speak your truth, fight and believe.

The gumption of the young journalists here alone is worthy of commendation, but I’m most heartened by how local reporting by local people breaks through: “It’s like, ’Yeah, your granddaughter is going through this...it’s something different than Fox News.’” #icymi

I need a mood booster, let's talk about capybaras. Here's a capy demonstrating one of MANY ways they can move through the water: running along the bottom. They're 'semi-aquatic' mammals, just like hippos, seals & beavers. They LOVE water. (📷: Fernando Maidana)

Today is day 139 of the ICE occupation of MN. If ICE hasn’t come to your city or town yet, let us tell you: NOW is the time to organize. Build trusting relationships. Get folks into Signal groups now, based on trust and connections. It will make what comes next so, so much easier.

It's not over in Minneapolis! It's not over in Minnesota! ICE is still here, even if they're quieter and using somewhat different tactics.

I feel this in my bones. You cannot look at what Minneapolis and the rest of the metro has been through this year and claim everyday Americans aren't fighting back. We may not have won yet, but we are not going quietly into authoritarianism. Not while we've still got our whistles.

"Why don't Americans–" Motherfucker, I live in Minneapolis

It’s day 123 of the ICE occupation of MN. Minnesota is out of the headlines, but ICE continues to abduct our neighbors- their tactics have just changed.

Two chained women are inspected before being loaded onto today's ICE Air flight at MSP. Empty shackles, returning from El Paso, will be brought to Whipple. The number of people loaded here this week, 67, is the highest since Feb 7-13, when Homan announced the end of Metro Surge.

I just watched this four times, it’s so perfect.
