Folding clothes I forgot about and my old pairs of underwear are looking like this wondering if I’ll finally put them out of their misery and throw them in the trash:

I'm gonna find whoever did this to the job market and make them step on every pointy Lego I can find.

"some people might get offended" yeah well some people are being bombed for their land, jan. if you can't figure out which of those are worse, that's a you issue.

Isaac Newton famously wrote “if I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” Academic progress is always iterative and builds on the work of others, and a key component of academic culture is proper citation & attribution. It would be a travesty to let LLMs destroy that.

I petition that we start saying "That's not very Dolly Parton of you." to things that are seriously un-fetch in this world

The Russian Bolshevik revolution and Chinese Cultural revolution warned of a time when the wealthy and the intellectuals would be “displaced” in favor of the proletariat. I was not prepared for the wealth class destroying the academic intellectuals while the workers both cheer & suffer greatly.

The story of climate change is told through cell phone videos that get closer and closer to your house. But for a brief shining moment, we made some asshole a trillionaire.

The idea of electing a business owner to leadership should sound crazy to anyone. Like an economics expert or like a contract consultant or something at least makes some degree of sense but a business owner? A guy whose livelihood is dependant on killing competition? Sounds really stupid to me.

my extremely petty gripe with AI is that I am paranoid about using em dashes — one of my favorite punctuations — now that I know how commonly AI uses them in writing, and I can’t use the verb “grok” anymore which was a really fun and useful word before it got absolutely ruined

Hey folks: even if you aren't involved, consider signing this petition in solidarity with your fellow academics? Interdisciplinary translation: this is like if they canceled APSA for political scientists, AMS for musicologists, AHA for historians, MLA for lit studies, etc. etc.

I keep thinking about this, so I’m making it y’all’s problem too: The print runs of Jane Austen’s novels in her lifetime: Susan (later Northanger Abbey): copyright sold for £10 in 1803. Never published, copyright repurchased by her brother in 1816, published posthumously. (1/?)

Dr. Emily Friedman@ecfriedman.com

Apropos to the Pride & Prejudice-palooza we’re having right now thanks to @trungles.com — it is also a weird specific fuckery to think that my next books will have starting print runs more than the first edition of P&P did in 1813 — and indeed ANY of Austen’s novels in her lifetime.

Homeschooling doesn't make sense after a certain age because eventually it turns out you do need an English teacher to tell you what the themes of a book are otherwise you get a bunch of people thinking the Odyssey is about a cool smart guy who fucks his way home to his loyal wife

America belongs to all of us — period. We’re reclaiming the American flag, our country, and our right to take up space — because none of us are free until ALL OF US are free. 🇺🇸🏳️‍🌈

"Saying 'I'm a lesbian trapped in a man's body' is just a joke. It's not possible, cuz I'd be an ugly woman. Isn't it funny? Guys? Why am I crying so much?" Girl, the people condemning compassion and understanding are *not* on the right side of history (Special thanks to Kathryn for the bomb)

“I only watch Project Runway with my wife, because she’s obsessed. It just makes me mad that nobody makes clothes this beautiful for men. It’s not like I want to wear dresses or anything, but why are we stuck with boring tuxedos?” Girl, just wear the damn dresses.
