Яeform MP Sarah Pochin is so concerned about the impact of second homes on communities that two days after asking a question about it in parliament she bought one on Anglesey / Ynys Môn. Good scoop by my erstwhile colleague @willhaycardiff.bsky.socialwillhaywardwales.substack.com/p/reform-mp-...
Hey folks. In total honesty my tour is NOT selling well. I’ve sold 30 tickets in a 400 seater in Birmingham, and not much more elsewhere. If you like musical comedy, if you like standup, then please come see my show! And spread the word! The Rachel Parris Songbook tour starts in Nov! Link in bio! 🎶

This German comedy sketch (with English subtitles) perfectly captures so much of what is going on right now in the UK, the US, and across Europe.
"Playing the 'Nazi Card' in the Third Reich", by Browser Ballett.
Lots of good green announcements from Miliband's department at the moment.
"Motorists will be able to have a “gully” to run an electric cable [for EVs] as a permitted development, which can cost £1,000 under current rules."

I’m sure many have drawn attention to the advice given by the Oracle of Delphi to King Croesus of Lydia, that if he should send an army against the Persians, he would destroy a mighty empire.
Just not in the way he hoped
Maybe these need to be put on a few menus/supermarket walls. These are from the UK National Food Strategy, showing the proportion of UK land used for different things (huge for beef/lamb, tiny for crops), & where we get our calories and protein (68% & 52% from plants). The difference is staggering.
If you're doomscrolling, guess what? So far there are 51 kākāpō chicks hatched and thriving this season, the same number of birds as we had in TOTAL in the 90s! Only one chick has died and there are still fertile eggs waiting to hatch!
It's ridiculous that the Government *still* haven't banned the sale of peat.
Peat bogs are still getting dug up and used for compost and in horticulture. Ministers say they'll ban it 'when time allows'.

I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.
They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1
For those that have followed me from Twitter you will recall I put out many threads on the lunacy of the plan by Rishi Sunak to make the excise tax system for Alc be based on the strength rather than volume. This subtle change was devastating for the wine industry with yet more UK Brexit red tape.
Astonishing piece about #Putin’s huge vanity #wine project, Krinitsa, just down the road from his vast and staggeringly vulgar Black Sea palace, Gelendzhik. The fruits of kleptocracy in a mafia state, on a grand scale theins.ru/en/inv/28560...
Don’t want to worry you unduly, but it’s very hard to find any footage of the techbros and datagarchs saying they really like people. Sure, ‘humanity’ as a concept gets positive reviews but nothing really warm and memorable about people. youtube.com/shorts/LXpc1...
Hooray, it's Private Eye week 🎉

in rare non-doom loop news, saw Ballad of Wallis Island last night & it's v hard not to love; funny in an inexplicably British way, heavy on rain and cardigans, emotional but not schmaltzy. (I am not a folk music person, if that's putting you off don't let it) www.theguardian.com/film/2025/ma...
Champagne Louis Royer, rinsing bottles, c. 1900s.
100+ years ago, heavy, thick, and expensive bottles built to withstand up to 6 atmospheres were commonly reused multiple times.
no offence to Carrie but "you have birthed Boris Johnson's fourth child in five years" is something you'd have to say to me in the hope that the sheer horror of it would finally wake me up from a lengthy coma
