A reminder, because it is almost that time of year: More children are killed by cars on Halloween than any other day of the year, by far. www.vox.com/future-perfe... If you're a parent, I hope you'll do what you can to keep kids safe. If you're driving on Saturday, PLEASE exercise extra caution.

Been reading about a lot of very bad but entirely ordinary people throughout history for the next season of Past Lives (Everyday Villains). This guy is utterly typical. 1) Doesn't think he's doing anything wrong. 2) Permission structure in a system of hierarchical authority. 3) Benefits materially.

Rode what I consider to be one of the best point-to-point concepts out there, the Monument-to-Monument ride. Start at the Washington Monument in Baltimore, end at the Washington Monument in DC. I rode in from home, made it a metric century, but it’s really a 50-mile one-way, then MARC train home!

Breakfast in Baltimore, lunch in DC! The fact the MARC runs trains every hour and a half even on Sunday afternoon, all with bike cars, makes it easy to ride and know you can get home easily! Truly a wonderful service.

What are you afraid of? Sharks🦈, lions🦁,bears🐻? Terrifying. Car traffic kills way more people than animals ever could. Even when excluding indirect harm. Watch out for the real predators🚗!

I do feel like one of the biggest underappreciated crime victories we've had is that since its peak in 1991, total official property crime has fallen by 60%. Not the rate. The total amount. As populations grew. The rate of property crime is down over 70% from 1991 to 2025.

Republican lawmakers are incensed about Trump's dismissal of Ukraine — and powerless to stop him. That frustration hit a new peak on Monday as they sought to address Trump’s decision to purchase Russian diesel, waive sanctions on Moscow, and potentially stop sharing intelligence with Ukraine.

The name of New Mexico is funny because it's one of those things that you'd think is really simple (oh, it's it used to be part of old Mexico, so we'll call it New Mexico!), but it's much more complex New Mexico as the name for the area predates Mexico by several hundred years!

I don’t think this report is making the case they think it is. What I’m seeing is that under the worst possible assumptions, this could be a very fiscally responsible program. Got some work to do on healthcare, sure, but otherwise their document is having the opposite of its intended effect.
