RSS and XMPP were the first microblogging formats, in 2008 Evan designed Open Microblogging 0.1 (it was the format used to connect Laconica instances) it used OAuth to exchange profile avatar etc between hosts when one user followed another

Finally getting around to reading this classic

I use it to combine my Mastodon and Bluesky feeds and to create some lists where I interleave YouTube feeds, RSS and social media posts around certain topics

@cocore.dev at work in the @pdxtrend.bsky.social Pdx Pulse trending topics bot. The bot tracks the PDX Posts feed and uses an llm call to organize and title the trends. The llm call defaults to a local but fails over to co/core if the gpu is busy. Roundtrip time was flat. Great work, @graze.social!

This is a good explainer. The one change I'd make is that the fiefdom thing is something that very explicitly came from Mastodon, as it was implemented in the world. ActivityPub is in many ways just "two-way, more efficient RSS"
