So, Schmitt saying Smith perjured himself during the hearing is obviously protected by Speech and Debate Clause but, given that Schmitt was shown proof that he was wrong AND THEN repeated it outside of the legislative chambers, it seems like there is an actionable slander case here

To be clear about what just happened: The Trump administration sent armed FBI agents to abduct a 78-year-old doctor and former federal public health worker from his home and stripped him because the brainwashed right-wing base, hopped up on a literal conspiracy theory, wants scalps.

I think what they are trying to avoid saying is this: (1) the perp never fired a shot; (2) one or more security personnel fired shots but missed him. Which suggests that the Secret Service person who got hit in his bulletproof vest was a friendly fire victim.

The extent to which Trump governs this country and the world via what he sees on Fox News is seriously underplayed. He thinks what is on that network is the only reality and we suffer the consequences.

It’s amazing how fast we have memory-holed the fact that all of society was compelled to close down and lock ourselves in our homes, for a year and a half, to protect a generational cohort which is considered untouchable and unaccountable even in cases of malicious and destructive behaviour.

"Facebook is the only social media platform we ask about in the survey which is more popular among social media users aged 75+ (81%) than with social media users aged 16-24 (55%)" but god forbid you even suggest regulating an OAP's usage like that of a 16 year old. www.ofcom.org.uk/media-use-an...

When the Supreme Court allowed immigration agents to consider race during sweeps, Justice Brett Kavanaugh said that citizens shouldn’t be concerned because agents will “promptly let the individual go.” For these Americans, that wasn’t true. (Published Oct. 2025)

What we’re seeing with WaPo is part of a larger trend. If it’s not clear by now, there is nothing big money gets its hands on that does not dirty and destroy. - housing - law - govt - media - entertainment What we call “enshittification” is really the capitalization of everything.

I think when Trump is out of office or dead, and if the Democrats ever get their weak complicit enabling behaviour fixed and win power Every monument with the name Trump on it should be changed to Obama or another black person to enrage the racist Republicans or rename to its original name

Quick round up: - the government is covering up evidence the president is a pedophile - he’s openly taking bribes from foreign governments - his masked agents are shooting citizens in the streets - the FBI is helping him steal the election - he’s threatening war against multiple allies 👍👍👍

Other folks have already noted much of this, but I think the MAGA 'theory of victory' here is: 1) DHS provocations trigger a riot or attack on agents which 2) Leads to widespread civil unrest in many 'blue' cities so that 3) Trump can invoke the insurrection act and send in the troops...

Brian Finucane@bcfinucane.bsky.social

Curious if anyone has a plausible theory of victory for the administration if it were to invoke the Insurrection Act. How does the administration "win" in such a scenario? Best I can tell, it is magical thinking by a certain somebody at the White House, but maybe I'm missing something.

It's easy to oppose fascism once it has come out into the open & is shooting innocent women in the face. What's more difficult is a) foreseeing this as inevitable if Trump wins & b) working to prevent his victory, even if c) that means you have to be cringe & stump for Harris.

Would respond to this post defending David Brooks but Sanchez has turned off replies. To repeat: the issue is that Brooks was part of a tiny, exclusive, secretive "Billionaires' Dinner" sponsored by Epstein, then wrote a op-ed dismissing the idea of an "Epstein class" without disclosing that tie. 1/

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills. No newspaper on the planet would consider “attended the same dinner event 15 years ago” as a “conflict” requiring disclosure. I could not even recall the names of 99% of the people who were at all the conferences & dinners I’ve been to over that timespan.

There's a lot wrong with Julia Black's article, which treats Katherine Boyle's statements on 'memetic warfare' as though they're original (they're Thiel lines from 2015). And she doesn't disclose her affiliation with another Silicon Valley magnate: she's reporter-in-residence at the Omidyar Network.
