There's a lot of terrible things about the US/Israeli war on Iran and Lebanon, but it's probably good for Brazilian democracy.

I just some small Kalshi bets on Republican wins in the House and Senate. It's a hedge. I don't mind losing the money if the election goes well. If it goes poorly I have some self care cash.

I have vision loss on the right of my field of view due to a brain tumor, but am I the only one who momentarily reads "Meta" as "Meat" in headlines?

Trans voter to @aoc.bsky.social: Trans people in America feel like they've been abandoned by the Democratic Party, that we are a losing issue, that it's not worth defending us. What do you say to that? AOC:

The exponential memory & CPU consumption patterns in clang-format have finally affected side-projects rather than just work. And LLMs are good at coming up with minimal test cases. So maybe I'll actually get a patch up for this.

Why can't American AI companies give their model variants meaningful names like Chinese ones do. What's a Sol or Fable or Sonnet or Argon? Just tell me if it's small, cheap and fast or big, slow and expensive, or the one in the middle!

Boy I wonder who he means by “they”

Joe Rogan: I do not like this Iran war. It does not make any sense for us. They were trying to get every single president to do this and now we've done it. It's very clear it's a giant quagmire

I got a mac mini for development, testing and CI. I'd like to avoid the wild west of homebrew and stick to normal, supported package management like I use on Linux and Windows. I wonder how long it'll take for me to be forced to break the glass...

Steve Bannon issues warning to voters if they vote for Democrats in the midterms: “I think you’ll see Bobby Kennedy impeached, I’ll think you see Pete Hegseth impeached. I think you’ll see subpoenas flying every day. They will look to destroy Trump, and we’ll be bogged down for two years.”

idk man you’ve been blowing up a lot of fishermen and school girls for a guy worried about innocent life

Oh no, a stern post on X, Houthis are so afraid now.

The problem is the execution, not the streaming. Streaming it is just saying the quiet part out loud. There's nothing "civilized" about killing people behind closed doors or using injections rather than bullets.

God@thegodshow.com

Tragic, but I'm sure nothing compared to what the families of the >150 schoolgirls we killed in the tomahawk strike in southern Iran at the end of February.

Seems crazy to be bragging that the economy is so bad that foreigner governments and companies are able to come in and buy up ownership and control of vast swathes of America, using us to make profits they'll take abroad. To each their own I guess.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

wow -- Fox Business is now treating Trump's completely made up economic boasts as though they are factual. Note the citation here -- "The White House" Reminder that the entire US economy is about $32t. If we really had $21t flowing in, you'd notice it Fox thinks their viewers are really dumb

As we have said for years—the Trump administration is only pretending to fight antisemitism in order to make themselves the arbiters of what counts as antisemitic. Their real goal is to crush anti-Zionism and subordinate all Jewish people to the Christian Nationalist agenda.

I've always said "the pro-Israel American right-wing only supports Israel so they have a place to deport Jews," but I never thought they would make it quite so literal. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/30/n...

As an American and an Australian I find this doubly enraging.

I started writing a newsletter post about the third-country removals case and had to stop—I was too mad. Maybe tomorrow.

Thanks for the heads up Anthropic! I've started running security scans on software I maintain now using GLM-5.3 in opencode since Anthropic restricts access to their non-neutered models to state actors and large corporations. www.anthropic.com/research/glm...

anthropic.comGLM-5.3 and the spread of advanced cyber capabilitiesGLM-5.3 can autonomously build end-to-end cyber exploits, but unlike other frontier models, it was released without meaningful safeguards to limit misuse.

$20 later I've got a bunch of fixes (including local code execution) to my overly complicated git status shell prompt code.

@aoc.bsky.social: The best thing that we can do to rein in runaway costs at private institutions is by having tuition free public colleges and universities. “For anyone who wants to say that that’s pie in the sky and unrealistic… this is literally what baby boomers gave themselves.”

One Nation’s surge has seen the mainstreaming of neo-Nazi talking points. Their supporters, candidates, and members of parliament have publicly denied and minimised the Holocaust, promoted conspiracy theories, and repeated antisemitic slurs. The far right is no friend to the Jewish community.

I gave a local AI agent root access to all the machines in my homelab, but with really strict guidelines around planning things and security practices.

On one hand it's great - my network machines are in great shape relative to my normal sporadic neglect. On the other hand I'm dealing with a surly (virtual) sysadmin all the time...

I'm about to head to Walnut Creek (home of the CD-ROM) for my first radiation appointment for my brain cancer. Then tonight I start my chemo pills. It's going. To be an interesting six weeks.

Now that LLMs can turn any dumb idea I might have into a functioning web app, should I give my agent the ability to register domain names itself?

Long time no post. I had let my mastodon instance bitrot quite a bit. Maintaining a server is kind of a pain. But I asked an AI agent to fix it up and it seems to have done a good job. Also, I just had brain surgery. Weird times.

It doesn't matter whether you pick DST or ST, and there isn't a "better one"; it's geographically dependent on where you are inside the timezone anyway. What matters is that you don't switch midyear.
