The @houstonchronicle.com posted this video and it's pretty jarring. No matter that he was fleeing, law enforcement officers may not use deadly force on someone who poses no significant risk of death or serious injury to others.
Deliberately hitting someone with a car is a use of deadly force.
Harris County TX. He's hospitalized:
"ICE claimed the man ran in front of the agents' vehicle and was struck.
However, the surveillance video appears to show the SUV veering left through empty parking spaces before running the man over..."

Although the overall labor market has weakened, Latina workers have record-high employment rates in 2026. But Latino workers and young Hispanic workers are not experiencing similar gains.

This thing has made me go do a lot of reading tonight, and the Wikipedia page about the last public execution in the United States is well-written. It was Rainey Bethea, a Black man hanged in front of a crowd of 20,000 in 1936, a spectacle which embarrassed Kentucky enough that they ended hangings.
I think people should listen to what the administration trying to bring back spectacle lynchings, race riots, and middle passage-esque deportation voyages are trying to tell you about themselves. bsky.app/profile/bren...

Notable weakness in today's #jobs report for this morning. Payroll employment grew by 29,000 while downward revisions to both July and August totaled 60,000. July is now recording losses. The job growth in September (29,000) is slower than the prior 12 months (45,000).

The rise of 287(g) programs has meant that ICE is increasingly using local police as a very significant force multiplier, with up to 1 in 8 arrests of noncitizens in the interior now being carried out by state and local police.
This is going to have profound impacts on community relations.
But an increasing proportion of arrests have been made by local law enforcement in partnership with ICE, via 287(g) agreements.
In many regions, it can be difficult to know when local officers are conducting routine policework or immigration enforcement. In many cases, they are doing both.
As I told @gregsargent.bsky.social, Congress should demand answers from those responsible for diverting taxpayer funding intended to protect people from persecution to some of the world’s worst authoritarians, for purposes which clearly violate human rights.
Awful: Trump's Office of "Remigration" has just been exposed making sordid payments to authoritarian governments to take third-country deportees, leading to serious abuses.
Dems tell me they will try to defund the agency if they win power. They should. 1/

An ICE agent shot and injured a man in Austin, Texas, the latest violent episode amid the Trump administration’s push to increase deportations. Read more: www.nytimes.com/2026/09/20/u...
A cop in rural Texas pulls over a Latino. He demands papers; doesn’t get any. Arrests the guy, throws him in a local jail cell. Hours later, GardaWorld staff show up to put him on a bus with a dozen others. They drive him to the nearest ICE jail; a bus service for the machine of mass deportation.
The 2025 American Community Survey should have come out today. But it has been delayed because of unusual political encroachment at Census.
ACS drives business and policy decisions, especially in local communities, and is the primary input to Census’s immigration estimates.
A Trump administration proposal would change access to Head Start for children experiencing homelessness and the kind of care they would receive if they do get in. n.pr/46Z2ExU
Is a rate hike going to rebuild our trade relationships or reopen the Strait of Hormuz? No, but it could make an already tough economy a little tougher for strained American families. New commentary w/ @tcfdotorg.bsky.social:

New income and poverty data show that despite gains in real household median income, strong inequities persist. Pre- and post-tax income at the bottom 10th percentile remained unchanged from 2024. Black & Hispanic households continue to earn just a fraction of the income their white peers enjoy.
With no significant changes in the supplemental poverty rates of families of color, inequities remain deeply entrenched. Black and Hispanic individuals, for example, remain more than twice as likely as their white peers to suffer material shortcomings.
Poverty continues to disproportionately burden children of color. Black and Hispanic children remain nearly 3 times as likely as their white peers to suffer poverty, even after we account for basic needs programs and recent improvements in Hispanic poverty.
This morning, the Census Bureau is releasing the latest data on Income, Poverty and Health Insurance!
Note: these data are for 2025 and will not reflect changes in the labor market, rising inflation, and attacks on vital safety net policies, hitting families in 2026.
www.epi.org/blog/2025-ce...
Next week, the Census Bureau will release income and poverty data for 2025, which may show early signs of a softer labor market and weaker safety net.
The 2026 story is still unfolding and is likely to be worse— @elisegould.bsky.social and @icidmartinez.bsky.social with your preview. 👇
The Trump administration on Wednesday proposed to no longer count immigrants without green cards in the 2030 census or ask about race and ethnicity, part of an overhaul that would redefine who counts as a U.S. resident in the eyes of the federal government.

This “game” on the White House website, a version of Snake where you play as a white man in a suit and you run around picking up identifiably black, Asian, and Latino men and putting them in orange jumpsuits, might be the most openly white supremacist thing I’ve ever seen the US government produce

August #JobsDay numbers show job growth reversed its drop from last month with payrolls rising by 162,000. Unemployment held steady at 4.1%, and payrolls were revised up by 55,000 for the months of June and July. (1/6)
Today's #jobs data can be considered a solid bounce back to relative weakness in June and July. Job growth has averaged 71k over the last 3 months. Weaker numbers for leisure and hospitality and unusual July losses in local government education employment seems to have resolved in August.

Despite some walking back of his initial threats, President Trump’s devastating cuts to funding for the World Food Program—which won a Nobel Prize for its work— have had a catastrophic effect, resulting in an increase in suffering and death worldwide.
Lawrence S. Wittner on @fpif.bsky.social:
The President’s threat of legal action against @amprog (CAP) marks another disturbing, anti-democratic effort to silence those with whom he disagrees. Our Constitution protects our right to engage in vigorous debate, debate that makes our nation stronger.
The president is threatening to sue a think tank for $5 billion unless they retract a report stating that his National Guard deployments to American cities under the guise of fake emergencies didn't make those cities safer.
