If you think “hearing from all sides” is a useful way to spend your time, you may have too much time on your hands. Give me sound logic or talk to someone else. My time is too valuable for nonsense. Apologies in advance. I don’t read or repost Substack.

I hear that, occasionally. I countered that mindset early by posting a giant “WHAT IF EVERYBODY DID THAT?” sign in the classroom. It came up again the other day regarding leash laws. Reasoning: Why are you mad? His dog is behaving very well without a leash. Rebuttal: *Taps the sign*

No one had that legal authority.

Despite the agency's human resources department saying he hadn’t even been onboarded, Jeremy Lewin oversaw the destruction of USAID. It’s not clear he had the legal authority to do so.

It's amazing how editors will say "we can't see inside this public figure's mind," "we can't assume their intentions" — and then write stuff like this.

The only reason I can think of for this news not being absolutely everywhere is that large media orgs don’t want to be seen as putting their thumbs on the scales a week before election day. And that’s cowardly as shit.

There are only two explanations for the NYT's habit of presenting GOP operatives and donors as true swing voters: 1. Their reporters and editors are somehow incapable of running a simple Google searches, showing just a staggering level of journalistic incompetence 2. They want to the GOP to win

It's really amazing how vile Trump's orbit is in general, and what a positively wretched group of legal "professionals" he has employed over the course of his presidency. I feel like practically every major legal scandal of the last decade has ended with the person at the center working for Trump.

I don't know that there is a definitive line to cross that makes you say, "I live in a police state now" but when masked gunmen can routinely brutalize the public, citizen or immigrant alike, with impunity, you have reached that point.

The US is not about to have a free and fair election. The state has put its thumb on the scale to favor the ruling party in multiple ways. It's a mostly free, somewhat unfair election. But still one where the ruling party can be overwhelmed by numbers. Hence the term "competitive authoritarianism."

Asawin Suebsaeng@swin24.bsky.social

It is atrocious we have to operate under this constant credible and explicit threat from one political party, the fact we keep calling it a “free and fair election” needs some light revising
