Once again, if you are a senior researcher spreading doom to junior researchers, shut up shut up shut up. It’s your job to figure out a path forward, even in high uncertainty times. Come back when you have something constructive.

it’s a discourse thermonuclear weapon, but I do *wonder* how many of the Americans who are vocally outraged by calls to collectively sanction/punish/disempower red states…..also throughly believe in collective punishment for Israel over its war crimes in Gaza.

This video camera study showed that less than 5% of people on bikes broke traffic laws while riding bikes, yet 66% of people did so while driving. And perhaps even more importantly, if you REALLY want even MORE bike-riders to obey laws, build more protected bike infrastructure. Via @carltonreid.com

Hot Take: Clavicular (as influencer) doesn't exist. He is far more popular with people who hate him than people who like him. He's a perfect package of trainwreck, ideologically repulsive, fascinating, threatening, and confusing. He's a hypersalience smoothie but his actual audience is tiny.

I was wondering why I always seem to get off the mark in my car faster than everybody else when the light changes nowadays, and then I realized it’s almost certainly because I never look at my phone when I’m driving. Which is a little terrifying to contemplate.

Remember, Democrats have repeatedly advanced measures to ban partisan gerrymandering and Republicans have voted against them time after time. This is the game Republicans wanted to play. OK, then.

ryan cooper@ryanlcooper.com

sucks that it’s come to this, but if congressional Republicans wanted to put up a national gerrymandering ban or multi member districts etc, it would pass *for sure*. until then fight fire with fire

I think our society really is grossly underestimating how important visible accountability is for social cohesion. May we re-learn this lesson.

And we're supposed to WORSHIP these assholes who have crowned themselves our fkn emperors No! Just, no. I think a huge part of the rancid vibes is "things just *keep getting worse and worse* because *no one important is receiving any accountability* and I am REALLY MAD ABOUT IT"

95% of the internet in 2026 is short-form portrait-orientation videos on social media apps which are actually screenshots of text posts from other social media apps

When we finally send all the politically tone deaf consultants used by elected Democrats into the sun, I hope we can also end the practice of endlessly selling around lists of donors’ email addresses to spam them with every two bit house candidate’s campaign list

It’s funny how the same media elites have spent the last decade mewling and puking about how everyone who isn’t a hateful MAGA ingrate “lives in a bubble.”

McBoo-lie@mcjulie.bsky.social

Trump 2.0 has been marked by an increasingly wide and obvious gulf between media elites and the general American public, which the elites themselves seem oddly confused about.

How in the world is like every other car on the road blinding everyone else with either misadjusted headlights or using high beams, and nobody seems to be doing anything about it?

Call your reps. Let them know that if they vote for ICE funding, you will not vote for them ever again. Representatives need to feel the heat. NO on ICE funding. No excuses.

Evan Greer@evangreer.bsky.social

So the House is going to vote TOMORROW on the DHS funding bill that includes funding for ICE. There's a real chance we can get Dems to vote NO on any bill with ICE funding to sink it. Once it goes to the Senate we likely lose this chance. 24 hours. Go. www.fightforthefuture.org/actions/no-f...

I feel pretty misunderstood by people living in rural areas, and yet mysteriously, this isn’t considered a problem. I’m sick of putting up with this idiotic display of obeisance to chucklefucks simply because they live in rural areas.

Michael Hobbes@michaelhobbes.bsky.social

Republicans control all 3 branches of government. Even when they don't, both parties pump out constant rhetoric about "real Americans" living in rural areas. The entire premise of this article is a conservative-fluffing myth. Cities have more political power because that's where most people live!

I think Democrats should focus on kitchen table issues, like not having a secret police force arbitrarily murdering civilians and having laws actually mean something.

one takeaway from the grok noncon porn thing is that much of the media just isn't interested in an issue they can't pretend has two sides or that doesn't give them an opportunity to shit on the left. Also it would be uncomfortable to justify remaining on twitter after acknowledging it

This is nothing like Iraq. That was a catastrophe and moral atrocity, but also, Bush was incredibly popular, spent a year securing broad public support, received congressional authorization. Trump is very unpopular, has not bothered to build any case, and is doing this illegally and unilaterally.
