I don’t think it’s sufficient for Democratic officials to treat these rulings like partisan acts from an out of control activist court. They should be regarded as part of a criminal conspiracy against the republic.

The Confederacy is the party of losers, luddites and racists. More American blood was shed defeating their cruelty, stupidity and malice than any American war before or since. We must defeat them again. America *does* have a manifest destiny. It's to be be a nation of liberty and justice for ALL.

Sometimes very hard not to feel like the rest of the country has abandoned Minnesota. We STILL have ICE everywhere. Our schools, businesses, and economy are in profound crisis. But without Bovino here throwing tear gas, much of the country seems to not care at all what’s being done to us.

The eyes are the lamp of the body. People usually see and judge others by their own intentions and actions. People of good will working to repair the world will assume the best about others. People who are lying, cheating and scheming for power and pleasure will see malice and bad faith everywhere.

There is no moral equivalence between bullies and the bullied, between tyranny and democracy, or between brutality and decency. No individual can be free in a society devoid of justice. There can be no liberty where brutality reigns.

it is incredible to see the extent to which the Sensible Centrists are simply incapable of grasping the very simple and obvious fact that the president's concern with crime is a pretext, and that to deny claims of a sudden epidemic in crime is not to say that crime is nonexistent.

The core tenet of motordom is that the convenience of the driver must be prioritized over all other considerations including the health, prosperity, safety and even lives of other people; especially those traveling outside of a car. This hegemony is baked into policies and engineering standards.

Final votes are 15 commissioners in favor of the trail closure, 2 opposed, and 1 abstaining. A minimum of 14 votes was needed to pass this, so sadly it means the motion is approved and the bridge trail will be closed 4 days a week for 3 years starting possibly this October.

Just my luck that Derek Guy starts to weigh in on something other than menswear and it’s not women’s wear. 😭 Anyways, he’s as good at architecture as he is at fashion.

There are so few places in the United States, even in older cities well served by transit, where it is possible to walk without continual exposure to noise, pollution and risk of blunt force trauma from automobiles. Pedestrian/bike only infrastructure is the best way to protect people from cars.

There’s a new pedestrian-only walkway between Market & JFK and 31st & 32nd–and we’ve painted it with murals. Here’s more about the two murals Isabella Akhtarshenas created for Mural Row at Schuylkill Yards! This project is by Brandywine Realty and Mural Arts, and it was curated by Conrad Benner.

"We're all throwing dildos at women athletes to promote our memecoin" really puts a fine point on not just how sexist, mean and stupid so much of right now is, but also the grim degree to which we're just inundated with Stuff a 15-Year-Old Dipshit Would Think is Cool. A confederacy of Beavises.

In the US we can’t even rationalize agricultural water policy so I don’t see this happening. As an alternative, discouraging lawns and encouraging pollinator plants (or human habitats such as ADUs and apartments) would go far in supporting local bee populations and preserving their habitats.

We should have the House right now. Let me say it again: we should have the House. This ain’t just a Texas problem, it’s a national problem. They’re stealing seats to keep power, and that’s how we ended up with Speaker Johnson instead of Speaker Jeffries. They can’t win fair, so they cheat.

Cadillac Desert is my top recommended book for anyone in California because it quickly brings two profound realizations: 1. Everything around you is an amazing and rickety engineering marvel 2. All of the seemingly unfixable problems with it evaporate if we simply stop massively subsidizing ag water

Bella Chu@isabellachu.bsky.social

This take is correct. In California, the true third rail of politics is rationalizing agricultural water policy.

Think about what the GOP is revealing with their attempt to suddenly change the Congressional maps: they know their agenda is so unpopular that they're going to lose unless something changes. Of course, what they should be changing is their policies, not the maps.

I’m not an activist, but as someone who reports on people who are, I see some activists sneering at people who are late to a cause they’ve fought hard for. Surely the point of activism is pitching to the centre to make change? Not alienating or mocking those whose minds you surely wanted to change?

Two things both true: The loved ones of Venezuelans are celebrating that they are no longer in CECOT; some are celebrating their return home. And. It is a violation of international law to cause someone to be returned where they’ll be persecuted. Most of them never got a chance to make that case.

NO ONE who is freaking out about the possibility of a public grocery store has said word one about this, or shown any sign that they give a shit. "Spending public money" was never the real problem. "Showing voters that nice things are possible" is what scares these folks.

More or less. His point is that the city spends $140MM per year on operational subsidies to privately owned grocers with no accountability for outcomes.

A frequent reason given whey we can’t have infrastructure for walking, wheelchairs, bicycles and scooters is funding: “it’s expensive.” NYC has created safe pedestrian spaces all over the city with large rocks. Rocks are cheap.

When discussing traffic violence it’s important to distinguish between imposing costs, risks, harms and bearing those harms. Between hurting or killing someone and *being* hurt and killed. Virtually *all* the costs, pollution and lethal force in our transportation system comes from one mode: cars.

On the train headed home and in front of me is a sweet, curious, wiggly little boy sitting next to his father. He is staring out the window, asking a steady stream of questions and identifying objects (train!) Children aren’t just much safer on transit, they can have so much more fun and freedom.

I have so many friends whose little ones HATE the car seat. They have to be strapped in like they’re being shot into space and cars *still* manage to be the leading cause of child traumatic injury and a leading cause of death for young children.

The headways at Millbrae *the* major station between San Francisco and Silicon Valley and BART connection is 30 minutes at 7:50 on a Saturday night. The next train isn’t until 8:16. Our region has wealth, stated progressive values and perfect weather. There is no good reason we are so car centric.
