Like, to have a meaningful debate, you require at least two participants who:
- know a lot about the subject
- have some common values about the purpose of the debate
- hold conflicting positions on the subject
- but do not hold those positions particularly strongly
Actually, positive change is slow, difficult and incremental by nature.
Destroying is fast, building is slow. It is easy to bring misery to people - any idiot can do it, as Trump shows - but very hard to improve their conditions. Building a better society is slow, careful, patient work.
Kinda surprised that I haven't yet heard about any "incel advocacy" or "right to sex" organizations being launched. seems like the exact sort of bullshit a certain type of person would be funding right now.
The money pit restaurant I would open as a billionaire would be the opposite of farm to table. What are the most unnatural flavors possible? Hiring top food scientists, giving a blank check and telling them to really explore the dark corners of the flavor latent space. I want to taste eternity.
gotta remember to manage my expectations for the midterms. yeah sure polling looks good for the democrats but like. there is so much Disappointment these days and not everything being thrown around as a possibility is going to materialize.
every poll is "Republicans are down with people who know what a fullback is (-23), people who have never tried cottage cheese because of gender-related insecurity (-34), and people who have either started or broken up a Waffle House fight (-39)
Fox poll: Registered voters trust Democrats more than Republicans on inflation (by 15 points), large AI data centers (+14), corruption (+11), and foreign policy (+10).
It’s underrated how many of the cardinal achievements of modernity are things that allow for you to interact with people you don’t personally trust.
“Contracts are enforceable” and “my safety doesn’t depend on someone being willing to avenge me” really changes the ways you can live.
I think MAHA is very straightforwardly the triumph of the snake oil salesmen and the way we beat it is the same way you always beat snake oil salesmen: regulate their claims
Genuinely feel bad for Harris at this point. Very high WAR outcome after being dropped into an impossible situation and is now tainted. She was a good soldier who did her job and likely ended her career in the process.
For the remaining primaries in the next couple of weeks, nothing is going to change, and it’s not certain anything will by November either, but it’s probably advisable to make an in-person voting plan (if you can and your electoral jurisdiction offers it) for November if you usually vote by mail.
Everybody say it with me:
I do not care about 2028 polling in 2026. I do not care about 2028 polling in 2026. I do not care about 2028 polling in 2026. I do not care about 2028 polling in 2026. I do not care about 2028 polling in 2026. I do not care about 2028 polling in 2026. I do not care a
"Women and their toxic empathy are trying to stop us from doing the important manly work of putting toddlers in prison for not having the right pieces of paper," is a view that people hold in this year of 2026 and that we're supposed to take seriously.
Now that Democrats' hopes of retaking the Senate no longer hinge on this man, I suppose it's safe to ask: Why does Graham Platner look like the lead in a porn parody of The Lorax?
Whenever I hear about the state of cultural/social commentary on MAGA twitter it's some bullshit like "What if we staged a die-in outside of theaters showing The Odyssey?" or "I wore my 'I use slurs' t-shirt to the county fair and no one complimented it, wokeness has gone too far!"
One group sees what MAGA has done as a blueprint. All that matters is the policy; it doesn’t matter how we get there.
The other sees MAGA as a warning. If you sacrifice your soul along the way, you may get what you want, but at such a great cost that you won’t even recognize yourself in victory.
People keep trying to make this Dem schism about policy, because they think they can win it with catchy slogans. But it’s actually not about policy.
It’s about whether or not you look at the GOP under MAGA with disgust or with envy.
When you vote, you are saying that you ultimately trust this person’s judgement to weigh your interest against the interests of the rest of their constituents, as well as the interests of the country. And, truthfully, against their own political interest.
That’s the job of an elected official.
"Are NFL players bourgeois, proletariat, or socialists?" - the greatest thread in the history of internet communism, locked by a moderator after 12,239 pages of heated debate
Trump acting like some kind of self-crowned Caesar is a bigger deal, in the sweep of American history, than toggles to opaque policy systems. It’s a more fundamental break with, and destruction of, the American republican system than tax cuts or welfare changes.
Red state governors are declaring June "Nuclear Family Month" as an "alternative" to Pride.
This is an overt act of bigotry against LGBTQ people.
When I read the proclamations, I noticed something else:
They also hate most straight people.

Assuming any of this "Weaponization Fund" money actually gets paid out, how much of it do you think will be lost to crypto scams and shady lawyers within a year?
