USPS workers’ greatest concern about Trump’s mail voting plan was a requirement that they reject ballots for an array of reasons. “That’s not what we do. We deliver mail. We don’t decide what goes and what doesn’t.”

propublica.orgThe Untold Origins of Trump’s Plan to Sharply Restrict Mail-In VotingProPublica’s reporting reveals for the first time the extent of the White House’s role in trying to dictate how mail-in ballots are processed, spurring behind-the-scenes drama that played out for near...

Lula has been reelected president, Brazilian media has now called. An extraordinary comeback for the left-wing politician who trailed by 2 points in round 1 but managed to hold off Flávio Bolsonaro, the former president's son.

Yup. And it doesn't have to be "mention climate change OR El Nino." You can do both! I checked the climate rulebook. It's totally allowed. And 100% check out that @climatecentral.org report on El Nino. 🔽 www.climatecentral.org/climate-matt...

El Niño is everywhere in the headlines, but ultimately human-caused climate change is the key reason for the record global warmth. 📈 Curious about how these two climate stories relate? Learn more in our latest report: www.climatecentral.org/climate-matt...

I got my phone number while in Texas doing my PhD and have retained it over the years, and my goodness, the number of spam calls I'm getting, I presume funded by Musk...geez.

To-do list for SD Mayor Pete and DSD Uncle Frank (and the transition team): - at 1201 rip down the stupid fucking sign, regardless of whether Congress has officially changed the name (not looking good for the 27 NDAA lol) - at 1202 issue orders to rename all the confederate bases back*

Why is this student so upset about the mushroom, though? What could it have done to make her protest across the whole continent

For the annals of why Oxford commas, and sentence structure generally, matter: "Memphis Democrat Justin J. Pearson is building a...coalition in Tennessee’s gerrymandered 9th District around opposition to data centers, gun safety and affordability, suggesting a populist message..." Odd opposition!

This guy was caught on video committing one of the worst road rage incidents I've ever seen, plowing into a group of riders—and then he left the scene. Seriously, fuck the Atlanta Journal-Constitution for framing him as some sort of a victim. You are complicit assholes. www.ajc.com/news/2026/10...

Really striking stuff from new NYT poll: Dems lead GOP on every major issue, including immigration, and are seen as the party of the working class by a 13-point margin:

Would love to connect with these folks to combine their analysis with @climatecentral.org's Climate Shift Index. I bet we could add some real-time human-caused climate change attribution to their heat storms. (And I think we all know what we'd find out.) csi.climatecentral.org/climate-shif...

Yes! And not only that, we need many more pieces of this *type* of legislation: lawmakers laying out specific, big ideas for structural changes to problems affecting people's lives, as well as even more audacious bills to build out the flank. Privacy, taxation, media consolidation...so many options.

I am entirely serious when I say that this should be seen as a moderate position. It specifically and surgically dismantles institutions that did not exist pre-9/11 and assigns their functions much as they were assigned pre-9/11.

Productive business capital like AI? Prediction markets? Vulture capitalism? And what do businesses do with those investments? Stock buybacks? Executive bonuses? Mergers and acquisitions? Dividends? Thanks but I think I'll take my chances with confiscatory taxes.

Most billionaire wealth isn't in yachts or jewelry — that's just a few percent of it. Most is productive business capital: companies that employ people, build things, and fund research. Tax that wealth and you're taxing the businesses that employ us all. Cato's Adam Michel explains.

I was one of those civil servants in that position at Interior, ordered to fired a bunch of probationary employees on the grounds of "poor performance" without evidence. I either had to refuse and be fired or carry it out...I did, but adding a note to every action that there was no evidence...

to support the action, so the staff had something to use with their lawyers later, which worked. And then I resigned the next day; the orders came in on Friday, 14 February at ~7:30pm with MLK Day on the 17th, so it was 18 February, giving time to clear my office on the weekend.
