Some context around this, from a markets person. Historically in LatAm, leftist victories have led to sharp losses over the ~3 months after an election where the left wins. Stocks also typically underperformed into those victories. But 3y post-election, returns for leftists have been *higher*.
It's very, very telling, I think, that the markets are so concerned about the pro-democracy incumbent winning

This is just the maddest argument. These people would trap us in poverty to keep a decade old commitment, which no one ever actually made, to an electorate which no longer exists.

“i pay tax before, but still pay tax now?” We spoke with dozens of half-literate morons about the machinations of local governance. Here’s what they’re saying.
“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century.

First massive defection in rumors that still needs confirmation - Colonel Major Kimba Tahirou, head of the national gendarmerie is supposed to have defected to the rebel side. Tahirou was appointed chief of Gendarmerie nationale last year and holds diploma of Paris War College.
Rumors are quite something though as usual better to see more details - rebels are said to have been able to seize parts of Niamey beyond the airport, which if true will probably shut down TV again. This is a wide scale revolt at this point and if not finished today - civil war.

It is simply not realistic to insist that your political opponents in a fight over a seventy-year old apartheid/occupation also constantly validate the innocence of your own position, and the "Liberal Zionist" insistence on this is just pathetic. At some point you have to accept your own beliefs.
It is not a "grim choice" to support either a psychotic Republican or a mainstream center-left politician.
