Stockpiling is a privelege. I work with families whose cupboards are more or less empty at the end of the month. Plus those without space. Perhaps when giving out advice Mr Streeting should consider this as should those joking about stockpiling expensive alcohol @lbc.co.uk
We’re told to prepare for emergencies at home.
Yet when local authorities ask for the full picture on ecological risk, the answer is often secrecy.
How can communities prepare? asks Cllr Gary Champion.

When the tech-bros and their allies attack "the establishment" or "the elite", what they mean is "any site of power - including the democratic state - that might restrict their own actions".
The alternative is not "freedom"; it is power for themselves to make decisions otherwise made by the state.
Death rates among 25 to 49-year-olds are 42% higher in the North than the South of England, study finds, and the gap is increasing | North West Bylines Reports

Just going to put these two things side by side.
One is the headline of the BBC live blog about the independent review on mental health, ADHD and autism.

The other is an excerpt from the exec summary of that review.

Government review warns of over - diagnosis risk .
Actual quote from the report
‘ This review was established not to align itself with either side of an already contested debate , but to clarify what the available evidence can and cannot support.’
Former Labour Deputy Leader Lord Thomas Watson, now Senior VP at Palantir UK, wrote to me defending their public contracts.
Instead of trading letters, I’ve challenged him to an open, public debate.
He can defend Palantir’s ethos; I’ll argue for public accountability.
Will you accept, Tom?
Should I stay or should I go? Clashing with social mobility and ideas of living the North East
Social mobility may not be about ‘staying’ local, or ‘going;’ perhaps it’s about whether you genuinely had the choice in the first place

It’s a good question. It’s down to govt mismanagement. It was intended, in 1945, that each generation after the 1st would be paid out of a fund they’d paid into - National *Insurance*. But instead, each generation has paid the pensions of the one above, & successive govts gaslighted us about it
Burnham tells us Triple Lock must go because it's unsustainable. We’ve heard this before. Women’s pension age rose from 60 to 65, then pension age to 66 and now 67, then 68 - each time justified to keep pensions "sustainable".
Why are people accepting this? #apathy#boiledfrogs
Andy Burnham and Social Care .
Emphasis on personal care .
Where can the line be drawn between personal care and nursing care .
Interdependent but funded differently .
Hotel care v medical needs.
#BBCLauraK#BurnhamInterview Another part of the #AdultCare problem is that so many #CareHomes are now owned by #PrivateEquity whose first concern is for their profits rather than the health and welfare of their residents
If a kid doesn't like school, it's obviously a "crap school".
Absolutely nothing to do with underfunding, constant high stakes assessment, obsession with GCSEs, lack of mental health support, large class sizes, lack of flexibility in the overstuffed & academic curriculum, overworked staff....
This is not to say addressing young people not in education, employment or training shouldn't be addressed.
It should and it's a long-term issue. But you can propose things without making inaccurate claims to burnish your case.
See also those claiming "welfare spending is spiralling". It's flat!
It appals me on a daily basis the cascade of unsubstantiated nonsense that is published or broadcast about social security without any evidence.
Today's example: some think-tank called Re-state saying there are "soaring numbers of NEETs"
The proportion of NEET youngsters is below the 25-yr average
For those who have forgotten the past 40 years:
Tax cuts for the rich
...don’t trickle down
Boosting military spending
...doesn’t bring peace
Slashing regulations
...doesn’t create jobs
Folks, we’ve seen this all before.
So, why do we have record numbers of young people with mental health problems and such a huge % of 18-25 year old NEETs? I’d suggest this must be because the sample examined in this test has been somehow skewed, meaning that the results are not valid.
The government is rewriting England’s planning system in a bid to speed up housing and infrastructure delivery.
But is the diagnosis right - and will the cure work?

🔴 UK politics is bankrolled by the super rich. Andy Burnham promised to restore trust in politics - so why is he is ditching plans to cap mega donors?
My latest on why the PM's timidity is bad retail politics *and* bad for British democracy
democracyforsale.substack.com/p/burnham-is...
I’ve seen so much garbage on Instagram (mainly from Green folks) accusing Labour of taking a more pro-oil stance because of corporate donors.
It’s total bullshit - the unions are the problem here, and the left needs to wrestle with that fact
Unions are failing to see the bigger picture, that a handful of people can buy our democracy with hugely disproportionate means at their disposal, using fear of a cap being weaponised against them to let the main issue at the heart of political financing to continue unabated. A catastrophic U-turn.
This is our future, ad infinitum….
For as long as we are dependent on fossil fuels and have deranged tyrants like Trump in charge, starting unnecessary wars they can’t finish.
