Older people have been saying this for months. Labor's automation of aged care assessments has been a disaster, under-assessing need and priority, denying care and driving up waitlists. It's past time to bin the whole thing and put humans back in charge of decision-making.

Imagine it being documented for the entire world that your parent is a lazy deadshit who couldn’t be bothered mustering up 3 nice words about you.

Australia has essentially eradicated cervical cancer, two decades (+/-) on from the introduction of the HPV vaccine

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

White DJs now using AI to steal the voices of black female vocalists on their tracks rather than actually hiring black female vocalists is 🤮

This firm has given me my best line of the year. I use it all the time in my trainings. It is “don’t use AI without disclosure and human oversight because we want to delight our customers not Deloitte them”. It gets a chuckle every time.

Deloitte used automation for Australian grant contract worth $2.2M --why are we letting a consultancy clip ticket for something as simple as a portal for childcare providers to get grants? CPSU and Greens raise alarm about inappropriate outsourcing www.politico.com/news/2026/10...

Finally realised what tech companies insisting 'you need to suffer some hurt right now to enjoy a glorious future' reminded me of

Apparently queer people existing must be relentlessly censored by Government, but the Government live streaming real executions is fine and dandy.

Anthropic banning “abusive or cruel behavior” toward Claude in its new usage policies is proof to me that tech companies are going to moderate violence against AI before they ever moderate violence against women and minorities

"By using AI, tasks like essays that used to take hours can be completed in minutes!" Sure, like how if I arrive at the gym and immediately go for a shower, my workout is done in record time. And if I throw my sandwiches straight in the bin, I can finish my lunch in under 10 seconds.

Maybe we should try to anthropomorphise climate models so they stop defunding them

JB_AU@jbau.bsky.social

Eerily similar to the abortion debate. They care about a foetus right until it becomes a human being out in the world and then don’t care if that child lives in abject poverty. They want to anthropomorphise chatbots so we feel bad for regulating them while not caring about the harm to real humans.

The AFL kind of fucked itself with the perfect pre-game show of all time that they’ll never surpass huh? It was Tina for the NRL. Now Kylie for the AFL. Good luck to anyone after lol

NT Police hiding behind a spokesperson for what should be a full-throated condemnation from the top brass. Active investigation/court proceeding or not, it’s not disputed that it happened and this is an utterly piss weak response: www.abc.net.au/news/2026-09...

Tech CEOs: Without asking or getting consent, we pumped SmartyPants Gas™️ into every school. We paid off the principals to permanently embed it in the air conditioning. It’s not our fault that 10% of students died, 85% of students lost brain function…but did you know it made 5% slightly faster?

Anyway, we need a trillion dollars a month to pay for the SmartyPants Gas™️ now. Governments we promise to try and stop killing 10% of students if you give us all your money. By the way, if you don’t huff SmartyPants Gas™️ you’ll be left behind.

Australia's cyber security agency has given new details re: the OpenAI Medicare stats hack: "The AI agent independently identified vulnerabilities and attempted to progress actions without direct human authorisation to ensure it was able to complete the activity it was assigned."

Progressives have really got to stop lecturing the community that “actually you’ve got it really good” - because there’s also also a whole set of inequality metrics that back up the very real pressures people are feeling in their jobs, homes, families, communities.

Alan Austin@alanaustin.bsky.social

Only once has Australia achieved these four outcomes: inflation, the jobless and interest rates below 4.6%, and GDP growth above 2.0%. That was in the fiscal year ended in June 2026. By falsifying their reports on the economy Australia’s newsrooms are the main cause of collapsing social cohesion.

Once again I’m saying: the west / anglosphere should really pay more attention to the Gen Z protests in middle & low income countries. Far from perfect, but incredibly effective:

Genuinely don't think we're hearing nearly enough about the effective youth/GenZ protest movements in middle and lower-middle income countries in the past couple of years foreignpolicy.com/2026/07/30/c...
