My support for bluesky/atproto is pretty much explicitly a "political" project. It is bad for a small number of (mostly right-wing) people to literally own all the sources of media. Open-source algorithms + the ability to move your account without negative network effects opposes this.

my message to the GOP on trans rights is basically "dread it, run from it, Gender Equality arrives all the same" and i encourage other cis feminists to embrace this as well

Absolutely unbelievable how solar power has taken off worldwide during the Hormuz oil crisis. You don't have to hand it to him, but Trump may have done more to finally kick off a global civilization of effete librul solar users than anyone else in the West

The AAUP is proud to endorse Dr. Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate in the Michigan Democratic primary. Dr. El-Sayed is a fierce champion for debt-free & tuition-free higher education & will be an invaluable ally for academic freedom & higher education as a public good in Washington.

I would appreciate it if academic leadership (at many places, not at my law school) would stop acting as though they have to bow to the absolute power of AI and instead stand up for their increasingly distinctive and scarce human and social value.

Taking part in left politics means to some degree placing yourself in the service of a holistic perspective of care and solidarity, it means putting the work before the ego, and it means stepping aside when you're revealed to be incapable of credibly honoring that obligation.

leftist content creators that don’t actually organize drive me crazy. politics aren’t something you talk about, they’re something you do. discourse without action is just noise.

When Minneapolis felt under heavy siege, people from everywhere helped and reached out and it was really heartening and made a difference. Memphis deserves that too, all the more so because there appears to be a concerted effort to keep their occupation out of the news

FDR’s Fireside chat on March 9, 1937 explaining his proposal to expand the Supreme Court stands up surprisingly well. “We have reached the point as a nation where we must take action to save the Constitution from the Court and the Court from itself.”/1

the levels of elite impunity we are seeing now and the levels of war crimes we are seeing now are two aspects of the same path of historical development. right now they see war as our problem (and their investment opportunity). it is world historically important that we make war their problem again

Trans rights, ending ICE, and freeing Palestine all got huge cheers at my local No Kings protest. These are mainstream positions for the Democratic electorate. The party needs to fucking catch up.

thoughts on today: 1) the protests are good, actually 2) you should go to one of you can 3) it will do you good to see how many other people also hate this guy 4) you might meet people who you can organize with 5) there are more of us than there are of them 6) we are going to win

Hi everyone -- there is a general strike in Minnesota tomorrow to protest what the Trump administration and DHS are doing to our community. In solidarity with the action, I am going to donate my revenue from tmrw's newsletter to People over Papers, the Midway-Hamline Diaper Bank, & Every Meal. (1/2)

New analysis: 0.25% of 2025 Bluesky posts contained citations to research...while only 0.000006% of X/Twitter posts did. In raw numbers, X still has 2x the research-based posts that Bluesky does (though they are harder to find): but it took Twitter 10 years to get there vs just 2 years for Bluesky
