Stuck in the most stressful financial bureaucracy I've ever encountered. I can feel my mental health sloughing faster out my ears with every additional set of paperwork or administrative task that gets added to the list. God give me strength lol I just want to lie face down in the mud right now

Me: Is there anything else you wanna add to the grocery list? My partner: Hm, let me look at the flyers – oooh, Hormbles Chormbles are on sale, maybe a couple of those? Me: ...what the fuck is a Hormbl – are you having a stroke? Partner: Haha no, it's a high protein candy brand. Me: I...*why*?

Apples are just astonishingly better than when I was a kid and what you'd get at the grocery store were either mushy red delicious or lemon-sour granny smiths.

When I was a kid, I constantly daydreamed about doing animation, and I was bitterly envious of kids on TV doing rubbish animations with 8mm film cameras. And now it's so easy and cheap for young people to have a go. Not everyone has a smartphone or a laptop, but it's SO much more accessible now.

Not really on par with anything listed here but also straight men wash and moisturize their faces now, that's nice

- Wikipedia and similar online knowledge sharing - Genre fiction/media going mainstream - Diversity in the arts - Cultural shifts in parenting - Democratization of resources to learn about visual arts and film online - Attitudes towards neurodiversity - Coffee quality and variety - Vegan food

Also I think the majority's attitude towards sexuality and sexual expression has improved by measurable margins. Everything from societal attitudes towards queerness to BDSM to polyamory has gotten better, even with our current societal burden of reactionary conservative oligarchs' intrusion

Getting Larry Ellison to ban the filmmakers on TikTok, throwing $1billion at Skydance (owned by Ellison's kid btw), suing Gibney for defamation in spite of everything that's said about Musk in the doc being backed up by multiple sources and Musk himself (archival footage). Exquisite. Delicious.

I got my veterinarian's blessing to give Onion an extra dose of gaba for the ride back, please cross your fingers for me

We're not gonna be gone long enough to justify a cat sitter, he said. Let's just bring Onion with us, he said. It's not *that* long a drive, we can give him a gaba and spray Feliway on his carrier blankets, he said. The hubris. The hubris.

I want you to suppose you have a net worth of $1 million. That’d be the equivalent of spending $450.

it's not the only problem in the world but it seems very clear to me that better ADHD support leads to better real-world outcomes, and that the delta between outcomes for the well-supported and unsupported is frequently enormous

Ina Hallström@killedbyproxy.bsky.social

Systematic review relevant to the discourse on diagnoses and meds. "ADHD was associated with increased all-cause mortality, suicide mortality, unintentional or intentional injury mortality, and natural-cause mortality, whereas ADHD medication use was associated with reduced all-cause mortality."

animal collective is performing feels live for the first time in a bazillion years and they posted the most insane promo image lmao

My partner and I decided to do a “haven’t seen it yet” double feature. He chose Past Lives and I chose Obsession. He said “Aw, two love stories, that’s kind of romantic.” I laughed, thinking he was joking. We just finished Obsession and I don’t think he was joking lol

The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead: www.ispot.tv/ad/SoDi/micr...

1) This is dumb 2) I’m pretty sure the “robot hand” in the image is a specific high end, articulated model hand for artists. There’s something grimly funny about how pervasively ignorant pro-genAI ppl are about so many aspects of various creative processes (esp those involving, like, thinking lol)

Opinion: If AI is now part of academic writing, what should institutions actually evaluate? This essay argues that analytical writing should be judged by evidence, structure, argument, and accountability not by guesses about how each sentence was produced. https://chroni.cl/4eDRdjg

Obviously the person who wrote this op-ed didn’t choose the image accompanying it, I imagine it got final approval from an editor. But also, if you’re an editor who props up these opinions on the cultural stage, I’m willing to bet the fact that you wouldn’t catch this kind of detail isn’t unrelated

Also the articulated hand model brand is Kotobukiya, you can get off brand models too but the OG is great. I got one as an early birthday gift and it’s a high quality artist’s aid, highly recommend

There are a lot of ravens near this AirBnB, which is very cool, I love ravens, but at least two of them are doing that TOK-tok-tok-tok-tok-tok vocalization right next to the bedroom window in the dark like the fucking kid from Hereditary and I don't appreciate it

It's not as much of a jumpscare as the time our AirBnB was close to a barn owl nest during roosting season and we got woken up at the witching hour by demonic screeching, but Onion is *really fascinated* by the ravens and I'm nervous he's going to launch himself through the screen to get to them lol

My partner (shouting slightly to be heard over Onion's nonstop bellowing from the backseat): "Well, you were worried about his lung capacity during his last vet visit, right? I don't think you need to worry...about that..."

Me (after 2-3 hours of having my eardrums blown out by Onion's howls): Oh my god he finally decided to take a nap, thank god. How much longer is it? My partner: Just 10-15 minutes or so! Me: ...cool.

This medieval rondel dagger is a copy of one in The Rothenberg Collection from around 1450 and is a complete tank – do not think because it is pretty, it is flimsy!   The hilt is bronze and the inscription reads ME FIE AN TOI ESPOIR EN DIEU “In you I trust – in God I believe”.

In the middle of defending my position that 5'2" is not "comically short" against my partner, some guys started playing drums on the stoop of my building and Onion, an uncultured man, first ran to hide under my legs and then immediately U-turned to hide under my 6'3" partner's legs instead.
