This is true, and also I think Millennials lack an appreciation for how much better they were in 1996 vs 1982.

a 25 year old could not comprehend how bad the dining options were in the median American town in 1996

It was playing in one theater in my town last week, but only two showings per day because of length. I really wanted to see it this upcoming week but it’s gone from everywhere in a 50 mile radius at least.

In the 60s you got cool nightclubs and niche record labels because rich people needed business that lost some money to lower their taxes 90% marginal too rate was the Republican platform for Nixon. Also philanthropy

question for the audience: if you were ultra rich (let’s say $25M), what completely frivolous thing are you buying?

In regards to the quoted reply, I think moving from C to C++ was a mistake. The major benefit of C++ is that language designers looked at it in horror and built better languages.

Last I'll post about this, but Elon Musk disagrees with me. This means I am onto something, and I feel more valid in my opinion than ever.

And even then, sometimes they overreacted and made the kind of rigid design decisions that lead you to the worst aspects of Java.

It makes me wonder if she even has a staff anymore. Surely someone around her would have said, "They're going to dunk on you on the Internet if you post that photo, Kristi."

I think the context makes this clip even funnier —the woman is Carolyn Swords, who was in the WNBA from 2011-2020 —the show premise is "pick a topic where you're an expert," she chose "basketball players" —Rob Lowe REPEATEDLY points out to the guy that she was in the WNBA —HE CHALLENGES HER ANYWAY

I would’ve ATE this whole round UPPPP! Did you guess all the players? The dude not knowing some of the goats of the W was disappointing but I’m surprised with the ones he got. So he’s good with me 🤷🏾‍♀️😂 #NBA #WNBA

Goddamn they would be fucking launching an endless stream of TALAFREAKO merch out of a tee shirt cannon every day for the next three weeks if I was even within earshot of his campaign manager for ten seconds. What a gift to be given that sick-ass nickname by the worst guy alive.

Is social media really making us “tribal”? Out now, SOCIAL MEDIA TRIBES by Geoffrey Hughes (geofffhughes.bsky.social) explores how Bedouin communities in Jordan use Facebook truces & WhatsApp organizing to redefine the digital frontier. 📲

Husband: wait, what's the fanfic actually ABOUT? Me: It's just... there. Husband: ... Me: It's more like a textbook than a fanfic? Husband: ...??? Me: I literally cannot explain it any more than that. Just go look it up. Husband: but I don't WANT to perceive it with my own eyes

The discourse this morning is showing the reach of Gruber, whose opinions I generally esteem very highly, but on this one I do think he’s incorrect..

I understand the claim "the rise of AI is also one of the biggest facts in the world." Maybe there are 20 people whose conversations about AI are really critically important to that big fact. Maybe there are 200. Either way, I'm sure they're all on a group chat already.

The nice popular girls sat me down in the locker room and curled my bangs and put eyeliner on me like I was in danger of flunking Girl School without their help.

I did Odyssey of the Mind when it was still called “Olympics of the Mind.” I was the first female captain of my high school quiz bowl team. I stayed up to watch 120 Minutes on MTV so I could maybe catch an REM video. I am utterly immune to “you shouldn’t be here because not enough people like it.”

I never learned how to curl my bangs! I never liked a boy band! I ran into an acquaintance at a conference, and he told me I "looked comfortable"! POPULARITY TREMBLES IN FEAR BEFORE ME, FOR LO -- NOTHING I DO IS COOL

Teaching intro to InDesign, have handy worksheets so students learn by doing, one student figured out the simple task, the others asked how he’d done it, he said “I actually read the worksheet instead of skimming it”, chaos ensued 🙃

Started watching “East of Eden” and at the end of Episode 1, my wife asked if Cathy was a vampire and now I want to see John Steinbeck’s Vampire Chronicles.
