No joke. I think this is the most important video I have ever seen about mobile games. This guy breaks down how this game psychologically profiles you, and makes the game harder or easier in order to show you ads

If you have ever read a book to a baby, you will realize it's not a linear experience. The baby wants to turn pages backward, wants to ask questions (if they're old enough), wants to examine the pages and get really excited if they can say "bear!" even if the word "bear!" is not on the page.

It's telling that men would rather try to invent tech to replace humans' role in caregiving than step up as equal partners in parenting. Telling, that is, in that it shows how financial capitalism and patriarchy work together to dissuade men from doing "unprofitable" labor, like the work of care.

This is probably the right policy to adopt if you want to create great projects/products. The idea that you can let your codebase become a big ball of spaghetti and have coding agents bail you out is a helluva gamble. You can move much faster now while still maintaining quality and understanding.

with times being what they are, it seems like you basically can't have a public open source repo without receiving LLM-written PRs. thus, after a great deal of thought, i have adopted the somewhat idiosyncratic Mycelium AI Policy in my personal projects: github.com/hawkw/myceli...

@news.sky.com Im interested to know the rationale for constantly showing US news during prime time when lots of UK news stories are relegated to the side bar on the TV. Can we not report on politics in the UK?

"Piece of paper"… like a passport… or a visa application? 👀

Sunder Katwala (sundersays)@sundersays.bsky.social

Nigel Farage on whether his gifts/donations were declarable: “All right, perhaps I should have filled in a piece of paper. If that’s the worst thing I’ve done in life — not filling in a form — I would say that’s not too bad.” “I’ve certainly been judged guilty already by the liberal establishment.”

I don't want to hear another word about how much white European visitors are enjoying ranch dressing while team officials, Africa's top referee, and now one of the world's most celebrated fans are turned away from the World Cup. The USA is an utterly unfit host — it's as simple as that

Ford has rehired hundreds of senior engineers after replacing them with AI backfired and has cost the company billions of dollars. AI adoption is blamed for Ford being the most recalled automaker in the U.S. with 51 recalls covering over 11 million vehicles in the first half of 2026 alone.

Credit to the residents of Brighton wholeheartedly. Criticise it all you want but you're wrong. The people of this city are the most welcoming and least willing to put up with this shit of anywhere in the UK. Come try it, it always ends up like this.

I fucking love Brighton 🤩

I'm basically interacting regularly with gen AI tech as if I'm a massive AI booster a lot these days. Low energy local model but that's what I'm doing. Partly due to it being mandatory in my work, partly I want to test my skepticism and better qualify what it does do not just what it doesn't.

I think everyone who thinks that it is no longer necessary to understand software engineering principles because of AI should spend a few minutes every day browsing /r/vibecoding. It's so so clear that technical skills are still worthwhile.

One of the hardest things to get across to most software people with great intentions is *how strong defaults are* and how tired everyone else is of dorking around trying to get things to work, but this understanding is the thing that made Apple, for all its many flaws, such a giant.

dan@danabra.mov

@toni.bsky.team @alexbenzer.com i think yall need to wrestle with the fact that the app’s most distinctive feature (“custom feeds”) is something only (relative) nerds use and benefit from. normal people won’t swipe between many algorithms or whatever. have a look at past designs for “communities”

This is half the point of Ursula K Le Guin’s The Dispossessed! Being a leftist or even living in a utopian society doesn’t free you from the everyday pettiness and social conflict that come with just being a human being who exists around other human beings, especially when ambition is involved.

Vibe coding broke people's brains because they had a bad understanding of the software design process. The pop culture model goes something like this: start out with a sketch and then render that same idea in progressively finer detail. So when tools could "skip" to high detail, people went WOW.

Is this… an allegory… for life?

Marie Le Conte@youngvulgarian.marieleconte.com

somehow got myself into doing a straight flush run on Balatro and I will say this: sure, I did the right and complicated thing and I did reach ante 11 but actually I regretted it the whole time and just wished I was doing the easy, lazy thing instead

I don’t know who needs to hear this but listening to an audio book absolutely counts as “reading” a book. In fact, I’d argue that listening to an author read their own work aloud is an exceptionally magical and even holy experience. I love it so much. Especially as my eyesight gets worse.

Do not copy/paste AI-generated answer to a PR review comment. Use your own reasoning and understanding. It’s both disrespectful and unprofessional to the reviewer ☹️. If you can explain why that AI-solution works yourself, how do I trust you know what you are doing?

"Quantity has a quality of its own." 🔥

George Walkley@georgewalkley.com

Fun to see all the mistakes people are finding with this, but quality was never the point with this kind of political messaging: all about flooding the zone. Once someone has seen this the algo is going to push them countless variations. Quantity has a quality of its own.
