New from me. Talked to @sam.robotsfightingdinosaurs.com about his game Die on this Hill and it's uncanny resemblance to a new game from Jackbox, Debate and Switch
ended up on an extremely weird site while trying to look up some basic information a couple of weeks ago and it sent me down a deep rabbit hole www.eurogamer.net/ai-fan-wikis...
Accessibility menus and gameplay modifiers are crucial for lots of gamers — but what if they were also a little silly? Here's @nicoleclark.bsky.social on how Yacht Club Games developed Mina the Hollower's now-iconic mods menu:
With the World Series, NFL, NHL, and NBA back, if you're in the games industry and looking for a place to talk sports - DM me!
Devs, PR, and media welcome! This space has been the most social space I have been in a long time and I really appreciate it all <3
Help us reach our goal either because you want a zine, or because you want to torture me by forcing us to make a zine, as I am a man who still carries the trauma of nights surrounded by envelopes
with another inside baseball week comes another subscriber drive! 5,800 is imminently achievable and unlocks a goal I’m extremely excited about: an annual, physical zine of our best stories

I spoke to the mom of the 3-year-old soccer star who was left "thinking he did something wrong" after a league official called police "due to a disturbance between parents"
The youth sports league said they launched a review and reached out to the family
The NBA has reached deals with Kalshi and Polymarket to make them the league's preferred prediction markets partners. The companies can now use NBA IP on their platforms, while the NBA gets right of approval on markets that they offer. That and more:

remember folks, next time you interview anyone at ea you should extremely be asking them about their new owners
they might not answer, but as a journalist you should feel obliged to ask
My first piece for @kotaku.com sees me document the rather surreal experience of demoing a game funded by a government that would have me executed for being trans.

what exactly DOES happen to materials from a major studio that’s closed? where do physical hard drives, documents, etc go? who maintains all this pointless secrecy? if you know or have stories, get in touch: nathan@aftermath.site, nathangrayson.666 (signal), aftermathdotsite@proton.me (proton mail)
BREAKING: Electronic Arts is cutting 400 jobs and shutting down BioWare, the legendary development studio behind Dragon Age and Mass Effect. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
Penguin Colony is not messing around with its statement on the Palestinian genocide, banning sale in Israel and calling out the games industry in-game https://bit.ly/4zHsD9m

I’m thrilled to announce Final Fantasy Resonance is terrific, and devastated to announce Vaan is one of the most useful visions in the game.
Thanks to GI for letting me review it! ❤️❤️❤️
It may have one foot planted in the series' history, but in a time when mainline Final Fantasy is still figuring itself out, Final Fantasy Resonance is easy to recommend.

Penguin Colony spits fire inside and outside the game itself https://kotaku.com/penguin-colony-developers-talk-the-bds-talk-and-walk-the-walk-by-banning-the-game-for-sale-in-israel-2000747581
As we wait for the Rockstar tribunal to resume, here's another speech from one of the fired workers as they demonstrated outside the hearing.
This is Jacob Jones, formerly an Associate Game Designer on GTA VI's open world team:
Exactly 20 (!!) years ago today, Contact - another pretty deep-ass deep-cut in the GhM catalog - was released on the Nintendo DS in North America🥳🛸
Happy (North American) birthday, Terry & Professor!😁🎂
I feel every time anyone writes "developed with a core team of XX" about a game, they have a responsibility to write "developed by YY developers with only XX developers being employed"
Penguin Colony puts myths and their believers under the lens in a short cosmic horror experience that makes a lasting impression. Wrote about how its approach to exploration, vagueness, and adapting Lovecraft all contribute to a convo on mythmaking and its consequences:

Star Wars: Galactic Racer was made by a core team of 75 people. "What we wanted to do was keep that core small, smaller than perhaps you might have done in the past, and scale capacity and capability with what we call distributed development." https://bit.ly/4hT02qg
Why do we keep on doing this? Praising a 'small core team' for a game with 1100+ people in the credits is incredibly misleading.
This PR narrative hurts, hides the massive shadow workforce of outsourced developers and testers, and sets impossible standards for actual indie teams.

Business coach Martijn van Zwieten says the most important step when dealing with issues at an indie studio is to correctly identify them. "Before you discuss anything, spend time making sure you're actually solving the right problem" https://bit.ly/4xOSOJX
it is almost that time of year in where game journalists do their best games of the year list and its all AAA games and the one indie friend their friend made
