This week's guest needed to reschedule. I have a buffer, so I don't NEED to record this week, but I'd love to keep a consistent recording schedule so I don't accidentally burn through it. Anyone out there in the Ruby/Rails space up for talking about what they're working on?

Welp... Got laid off from Podia today. Kinda a lot to process for a Thursday. I'll have something more coherent to say eventually. For now, send Ruby/Rails leads. Or dog pictures.... Both are good.

Hard agree! Taking some time talk to other people in-person or online is a great antidote.

Who is burnt out in this new age of Al cend how do yas keep from not burning out? The consensus was spending time in-person with people.

Also to my followers… if you’re an iOS or macOS user and use social media (Bluesky or Mastodon) and would be interested in beta testing my native app Switchfeed let me know! I’m trying to make it the best way to be on both bluesky and mastodon

Non-evil people, please take note.

Erika Hall@erikahall.bsky.social

We had a lot of fun in How to Sell today. When we do this, we get the question "What if you're trying to sell someone on an idea?" Honestly, the biggest mistake non-evil people make is focusing on changing minds instead of changing behavior. And not understanding the perceived costs.

Bonjour Montréal 👋 We're coming to town this October 17! Who should speak at the conference? We’re looking for new voices. Maybe someone who dives into a deep part of a domain that Ruby helped solve, someone who has a story to tell that’ll make us think about our AI age, ...

Hi, just because a software tells you it’s “reasoning” or “thinking” doesn’t mean it actually is. You won’t believe this but programmers can make software lie about what it does. Maybe programmers need more guardrails.

Has anyone been a very active @1password.bsky.social user, including their more advanced features (SSH key management, OTP, passkeys, team accounts, etc), and successfully migrated to an alternative? I've been using it for over a decade, but I'm upset about the direction the company has been taking.

Cool stuff in the last couple releases. Now I just need more hours in the day to be able to play with them.

Do I know any folks who can connect me to academics or researchers who are more fluent in the history of rhetoric used to attack the Roma people? I am far from an expert and want to be thoughtful in how how I’m articulating the danger of DHH’s hateful screeds.

This is a version of the world I would love to see. Not sure if we'll be able to pull it off (as an industry), but I think it still worth trying to move in that direction.

The specification is not a document. This is a long one. I’m trying to work through what the durable artifact of software becomes when code is cheap to regenerate, and what that means for documentation, production evidence, decisions, evaluations, and provenance.
